So it's been a while since I bought my last hand gun. Recently I started research on a few compact and sub compact guns from various manufacturers. A number of the guns I'd like to try and possibly buy, such as any GEN 4 Glock or a Springfield XDm, are not on the "list" of accepted hand guns in California. How often is the list updated? What is up with the expiration dates on the acceptance of the guns? Do they re-evaluate each gun and reinstate them or just remove them from the list? Please forgive my ignorance, remember I have not paid much attention to buying guns lately. No excuse I know but it's all I got!

You need to do SSE. No XDm or gen 4 will be put on the list. They do not have a magazine disconnect.

Forgive my ignorance but I'm not sure what you mean by SSE. I see the point of the mag disconnect. Too bad I like some of the features of the GEN 4.Comment

Welcome to CalGuns:
Here's an explaination of the Single Shot Exemption (SSE) process that allows non-LEO to get off-roster ("list") pistols in CA: https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...d.php?t=383692You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

And here's a great thread about the roster and how it has nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with disarming law-abiding CA citizens: https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...ad.php?t=81127You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.

The wiki article has all of that, butSo it's been a while since I bought my last hand gun. Recently I started research on a few compact and sub compact guns from various manufacturers. 1) How often is the list updated?

1) Guns are added to the list after completion of testing; guns might drop off the list at any time. There is no apparent schedule to publish updates.
2) that's the 'pay your annual fee' date.
3) it's just pay the fee, unless DOJ believes there is a reason to retest. I don't know if any guns have been removed because of suspected chicanery, e.g. selling guns different from the examples tested.
Some guns have dropped off temporarily because the fee was not paid; there is an administrative procedure to reinstate the guns without retesting.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Librabrian, thanks for the answers to the specific questions. The fog is beginning to lift! I am beginning to see what is going on. I'm going to have to spend a little more time searching threads and just plain looking around.
