With the scarcity of M&P 9 magazines, I found a way to improvise.
Not sure if this was covered here before; I'm not in anyway claiming I started or first to come up with the idea. But anyways, for the fellow Calgunners that haven't, here goes. This might be boring, so if you already know then disregard.
I acquired a bunch of M&P 40 magazines before the craziness started for the purpose of using it on my M&P40 Pro in USPSA, then i bought an M&P9 Pro which only came with 2 magazines. I usually have at least 5 mags minimum per gun. Well good luck finding M&P 9 mags unless you want to pay $50-$80 each in gunbroker.
I have read here before, from M&P40 owners that you can use the 40 mags on 9 with their barrel conversion. So I tried it but, didnt really worked out well, the 40 feed lips are still pretty wide that the 9 cartridge sticks nose up and sometimes pop out.
Since I have plenty of the 40 mags, I bent the feed lips slowly with a plastic mallet until I got the same measurement as the 9mm feed lips width opening, loaded it and compared the profile of that of the actual 9mm magazine feed lips. I went to the range and test fired about 100 rds and not a single hiccup.
I left the 40 followers in their for a while, until I got some 9mm followers from Brownells or Speed Shooter Specialties.
So for you guys that are looking for the 9mm magazines, might want to consider looking for the 40 mags as well. I know both are now hard to find, but at least now you have an alternative.
just my 02. cents
