Colt Availability Frustrating

Boy, this is really aggravating. I know that Colt is currently manufacturing
their O1980XSE Government in blue.

So far, I have missed four of these (because the FFL didn't ship to CA), 3
lost auctions (way too much money...I almost had one yesterday, but my
last bid was $1301, and the gun sold for $1326. I figured that $1300 was
too much anyway). These were all NIB.

Unfortunately, I have to have the beaver tail safety because I have big
hands, so that's somewhat limiting as well.

Does anyone know what the production run is for Colt when they produce
their firearms?

Also, this gun goes off roster (again) on the 19th at midnight. (It was back
on the roster for ten days, as it was set to expire on the 9th, but got added
back on until the 19th, and I guess it goes away again, unless whomever
entered the update forgot to change the year.)

Anyway, sorry for the rant...

I think I have asked this particular seller and they don't have any issue shipping as long as the gun is on the roster.

Try Olde English Outfitters in Tripp City, Ohio.
They usually have a good stock, and may ship to you. They do ship to CA but in about December they put their website on "local sales only" status.
So you would have to call.

I think I have asked this particular seller and they don't have any issue shipping as long as the gun is on the roster.

I am on that listing as a back-up buyer already, but the lister emailed me and
said that that gun was no longer available. I don't know why it's still there.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Colt pistol for sale new in a gun store so I guess online is your only option. Its hard for me to understand how Colt even stays in business. Good luck finding an XSE. I'd love to have one myself.

My lgs usually has 2-3 in stock but with the panic they are all gone. I talked to a guy that works for Colt on the 1911forum and he said they are putting out more and more every year and they all sell out.

Not to jack this thread, but really. Colt is a major company thats been around for a long time. I know they have a lot of gov contracts but I'll never understand why they surrendered the 1911 market (that they created) to Kimber, Sig, SA,....all of which I see in stock all the time (minus recent events). I'd even go so far as to say I could probably come up with a Les Bear 1911 pistol easier than I could find a Colt in stock somewhere in the SF Bay Area!
I wanted an XSE last summer when I had a few bucks to buy a nice mid-level 1911 and wound up with an SA Loaded in SS from AAA in Vallejo. Pretty compairable to the XSE in terms of quality and I'm happy with it. Colt missed out on another sale simply because they can't make enough product.

Colt's is not a major company...

Colt's has been plagued for decades with all sorts of problems. Changing ownership. Questionable leadership. Outmoded facilities and tooling. The longest labor strike in USA history I believe (their workers are represented by the UAW). Limited investment in plant, property and equipment, etc., etc.

It is a completely separate company from Colt Defense that makes stuff for the DOD, although Colt Defense has procured 1911's from Colt's that they then perveyed to the gov't.

Even Colt doesn't know specifically. What they do know is that they're back ordered months to years depending on the model.
