ok I have searched and can't find the info.
How can you tell a per ban from a post ban hi cap mag. The ones I have dont have any markings on them, do the post ban ones have any type of marking?

What type of magazine are you researching?

In CA, preban are mags over 10 rounds that you owned before CA banned them.

In NY, they use the 1994 ban as pre vs post ban

In CA, they are preban if you owned them prior.

If you are looking to date magazines, the type of magazine and description is needed

And in California, dates on magazines have no legal significance.

the only thing i see on my mags is a number 455 on the bottom plate have owned for years now i kept them from whhen I sold my g17 gen 2

If you owned them in California before 2000 then you are good to go. If you didn't own them before 2000, you are committing a fellony

Debateable. Posession isn't prohibited. Importing/manufacturing have a three year statute of limitations I've been told.

But, large capacity magazines acquired via a non-exempt method are considered nuisance items and subject to confiscation. [PC 32390]

So, you may not be charged with a crime, but you won't be able to keep them.
