Need advice on a new 9mm project.

I have been playing around with an idea of getting a really good target 9mm pistol.

I own several service style 9mm handguns that I carry on/off duty and shoot for fun at the range.

I am looking at 3 choices:

XDM 5.25
Sig X5 All around
Or just get another GEN4 G34 and put adjustable sights on it and a match barrel.

What would You pick if :

Roster did not matter, $ did not matter, 147JHP ammo was the ONLY ammo You had to shoot.

Depends on what type of shooting you're going to do with it, but I'd probably plunk down the change for an STI 1911 or 2011 in 9mm.

Whether it be for bullseye or run-and-gun type shooting such as uspsa, the 1911 platform is going to give you the most room for customizing the pistol for what you intend to do with it, and a well tuned 1911 trigger is still the best trigger available in a semi-auto.

If you're using iron sights, you might want to look into custom building a 6" longslide 1911 (I'm pretty sure that no one makes one of those in 9mm, but don't hold me to that). You just need a good base pistol like a Springfield Loaded, then buy a Caspian 6" slide, 6" match barrel and bushing, and have a gunsmith fit everything together.

Then I would say a 1911 pattern gun, SiG p210, SiG X5, CZ 75 variant, or similar SAO handgun.

If this is going to be a true target gun then you can do a lot better than a Glock, XD, M&P, any polymer striker-fired gun. You will never get the trigger out of a pre-set as you will a SAO.

I agree with the SAO recommendations. I installed a CGW race hammer and SA trigger on my friends CZ 75 and it's equal to or better than the trigger on our best 1911's.

I also put a CGW decocker race hammer on my CZ SP01 Phantom and the SA trigger pull is just outstanding.

I have both the G34 and the XDM Competition. Great guns.
But my CZ Tactical Sports, 9mm is absolutely fabulous.
