Cimmaron Holy Smoker

Debating between a ruger vaquero and the cimmaron holy smoker. I can't find any reviews on it, so any calgun owners??

Ruger Vaquero all the way. I have never seen or shot a holy smoker, but why go risky when you can get a Vaquero, get the great Customer service of Ruger, and actually find parts for the gun.

I don't own the 'holy smoker' but I do have their 1872 Open Top. That Cimarron your looking at looks like a "Model P" of theirs with different grips. I wouldn't call that "risky" at all. If you can find parts for a Colt, you can find parts for a Uberti/Cimarron & there's some excellent gun-smiths that specialize in Colt's & Colt clones. My revolver hasn't been used heavily just yet but I've emailed Cimarron a few questions & they always got back to me.

It's basically if you want a revolver that replicates the function & look of an 1873 Colt or if you want a more stout(I think the New Vaquero is still pretty stout) and a bit more modern single action.

I would say go with the Uberti/Cimarron. It's an actual repro of an SAA, while the Vaquero simply looks like one.

I just ordered an 1872 Open Top. I have heard nothing but excellent reports regarding the quality of Uberti handguns.

I'd ask what you want out of it. If you want something that looks old west but has the more modern internals (for durability) go Ruger. If you want something that's much closer to an original, including the weaknesses, go with a Model P (Cimarron/Uberti).
That said I use a pair or Model P's (and a USFA SA) for CAS with no issues. The price is good and quality/finish is quite acceptable if not quite USFA or Colt level.
ps: I'd bet that if you went to one of the Sacto area or the Sloughhouse cowboy shooting clubs there would be plenty of folks with either kind who'd let you check out their guns. All the CAS clubs are listed on the SASS website.

Beretta bought Uberti and improved their quality assurance methods. (Same product, better quality).

That said, I have a Beretta Stampede, which has a transfer bar - which I like, and not the weird loading gate 'safety' that Ruger has. Granted, I have a Ruger SA (Blackhawk), but it's just weird in a SAA to load without the hammer at halfcock.... In other words, nice to load 6 with safety..

EDIT: I held a couple of Cimarrons 2 weeks ago and the quality SEEMED far lacking from the Ruger or the Beretta/Uberti...
Double stamping on the barrel imprints, just seemed weak.

The Cimarron Model P is made by Uberti (at least mine are) to Cimarron's spec - supposedly better finish than standard. The last part is debatable...
