Just Joined! 1911 Question...

Hi there,
My name is John, I have been lurking here for a while and decided to go ahead and sign up. Now I can search the forums!
Was at The Firing Line in Huntington Beach a couple weeks ago and got a chance to shoot with a Kimber 45. I really liked it and want to buy a Custom2.
Anyone got any suggestions on where I might find one at a good price here localy in Orange County? I have seen some good deals on-line but by the time you pay the shipping and local handling fee's it really add's to the price. Plus I like supporting local places.

Also, most of Kimber's guns come in full size (5" barrel), commander (4" barrel) and compact size (3" barrel).

Just FYI- there are other good 1911 makes out there. Springfield (if you can find them. They're on a 2 year back order for new guns IIRC), Smith and Wesson, Para Ordnance, Dan Wesson, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, etc.

I just got a Custom II awhile back in January actually - I ended up going with an online store that sold it to me for like $699. You're right though, after all the fees, it's actually less a headache to get one in-state.

You won't be dissapionted with Kimber. I own a Stainless TLE II. out the door for 1045. This model is issued to the L.A. SWAT team. They test their weapons to extremes and pick the best. And the stainless is suprisingly easy to clean. Spend another 25 bucks on the Hogue grips and you will be one happy camper. Enjoy!

No offense to Ades but I don't think he is a Master Kimber Dealer. Master Dealers buy their guns much cheaper than a Dealer who just orders a few guns and therefore typically sell them cheaper. It's worth a call to Ades before you go there.

Turner's puts the Custom II on sale for $699 every once in a while and sometimes $679. This is a good price for a Kimber Custom.

I haven't heard of any 2 year backlog on Springers. We ordered a GI Mil-Spec for the range (the one where you shot the Kimber) and it took 2 months to get. We are currently waiting on a Commander Sized GI.

Yes, I am looking for the base model Custom II. Matte black, full size 5". I really like the look of the Royal II, blued with the rosewood grips. I like the night sights on the TLE but figure its not really worth the extra money.
Those Hogue grips in diginit's pic do look sweet, I'm sure that feels nice.
I checked out the J&J Armory web site after picking up a card last weekend at the gun show. It didn't seem to have much of a selection of handguns... Do they have a showroom there on Edinger? Cause I'm really close to there. My brother has an older Springfield that I really like. But the current US made ones are really expensive from what I have seen.
I read about Ade's while doing some searches in the Forums. Sounds like a good shop. I'll have to stop by there.
I have heard of Turners having good deals when they have sales. But I got the itch now! I was there on Tuesday, not much of a selection.
I was at the Stockade a couple weeks ago and they got all kind of nice stuff in there but its expensive.

From time to time, members on the forum will put up their Kimbers for sale.
Check the Firearm Sale Forums first, if you do not have a preference of new or slightly used.

There are many advantages to buying "pre-owned" firearms.
1. They can be found for much less than retail.
2. Handgun Private Party Transfers (PPT), when done face-to-face, is excempt from the "30 day" handgun purchase limit.
3. You pay no sales tax, just the $35.00 dros fee and of course a lock.
4. You get to meet fellow CalGunners.

Can you cite this? I didn't know about this exemption. I just PPT'd a 1911 and want to trade my mini for another handgun but I hate waiting a month. If this is legite, I might have a trade going within the next couple days.
