picked up my new to me G23 and "no recoil" buffer system at the bullets n' beef jerky show over the weekend. Tried it out yesterday along w/ my HK USPf w/ 3 different rounds in this order Remington 155 JHP, WWB 165 FMJ and 180 FMJ AE. Someone said that the heavier rounds will do more to reduce recoil on the snappy 40 and the difference between the 155 and 180 is night and day. Hard to explain but the 155 was loud and hard where the 180 was almost "slow" and I could "feel" the recoil and slide cycling. Same with the G23 and my hand started to hurt either due to the shorter barrel having more recoil or since I have a slip grip on the HK or that the heavier HK reduced the rcoil more OR HK's OEM buffer system.
So I put in the "no recoil" buffer into the G23 and I honestly can't feel a damn difference. There is more recoil reduction going with a heavier load.
I finish up and ask the guy behind the counter what he knows of the buffer and he says he's an Glock certified armorer and that the buffers are a gimmick. "Glock was designed as a poly pistol and should have a poly rod" and that the steel will just wear the parts faster etc. I counter with the fact that my HK is a poly frame and THEY use a buffer system etc and he didn't really have an answer for me and that the designs are different.
Thoughts? Do I need to "break in" the aftermarket buffer for me to feel the claimed 40% reduction in recoil or did I really waste $ ? TIA
