XD .40 subcompact

What opinions are out there about the XD .40 in sub compact. I've fired the full size, but I"m looking for a good quality carry gun in the $500 price range. Any thoughts on the XD? I love the feel of the full size, but haven't been able to shoot the sub, just handled it at gun shows.

Its a good gun pretty damn accurate. The first time I shot I was suprised by how good it was for a sub-compact.

I would go with something you can use the mags from your full version

I know it sounds weird, but I think I shoot better with my XD .40 Sub-Compact than I do with my XD .40 4" Service Model. Most everyone who has shot it has commented that they thought the recoil would be worse, and I agree.

And there is a "sleeve" you can buy that adapts "full-size" mags for use in the SC, but in CA, it's hardly worth it. In fact, the SC 9-round mags can be easily modified to fit 10. Actually, the "full-size" mags will fit in the SC, they just stick out the bottom and look funny.

One add-on you may want to consider is a base plate extension so your pinky doesn't wrap underneath the mag if you have average to large hands. I shoot fine with the mags that don't have the extension, but I find the extension more comfortable. Of course, if you're carrying concealed, it does add some length to the grip. I also shoot my subcompact very well and I love it. Shot a full size version and mine side by side and they were basically the same. As said the pearce extenders are nice for range use but I wouldn't use them if I was going to CCW.
