    Just Visiting... S&W Model 36

Stopped by to visit a new acquisition today at gun jail. Though I already own a Colt Detective Special .38 (6 shot cylinder), I recently handled a S&W Model 36 .38 (5 shot cylinder) and knew I had to have one. The price was right, it came with a nice Galco concealed carry holster, and it's just such a cool little piece. I handled it once and the image, finish, and elegance resonated in my mind the rest of the day.

Biggest differences between the two aside from the one round? The Colt is more complex leveraging a single spring. The cylinder release on the S&W is a bit more natural (in my opinion) being push versus pull. The S&W has an exposed under lug and the Colt has a full lug, albeit a short one... Feel free to add perspective.

Here are photos of both of the snubbies, I need to take one of the right side of the S&W to match the Colt... Hope you enjoy:

Colt cylinder turns CW as seen from the rear; S&W turns CCW.

Thanks As far as shooting goes, I too am a S&W fan... a Colt sure can be pretty though.

congrats on your new acquisition; very nice example.

i have not a moment of regret for ownership of my (1979) S&W Model 60 2" (1.875"), and would be very pleased to pick up and older Model 36. imho, either/both of these models amount to being the quintessential 'close encounters' revolver that'll give 'five for sure' on any given day. fun range shooters they're not, but arguably the best at what they are designed to do; provide reliable defensive duty at close range. for myself, the ultimate 'New York Reload' comes to mind, as well.

They are "old school" snubbies, very sweet indeed. On the Smith' sometimes cylinder release screw needs a bit of tightening. I'm more partial to the DS', Colt' finish is awesome. Enjoy!

I might be snagging a 60 too, unfortunately the hammer is bobbed but I suppose that can be my shooter
