    No Longer in Jail

Well, I picked up my M&P40 from the LGS today. Everything went smooth; no DROS delays or long lines to wait.

I noticed that the test cartridge had a date of 10/23/12 on it. I assume that means a very recently manufactured firearm.

The trigger pull was not bad, but I could feel some grittiness as I pulled it back. I've read postings about how to deal with it, but it doesn't feel like anything I can't get over. Now I'll just have to clean it, lube it and find a time to take it to the range.

Sorry. No pics just yet. My wife and I are dealing with some sick kids at the minute, so they have taken priority.

Congrats - healing vibes to the kiddos - then get out and send some rounds down range.

is this how you determine the manufacturing date of a new firearm?

From what I have read on other forums, it is a way to reasonably determine the manufacturing date. Of course it may not have necessarily come off the line the same day it was test fired.

For the M&P's on the sticker on the side of the case is a 4 digit number that is supposed to be the manufacturing date code (again, this is from what I have read on other forums. I haven't contacted S&W to verify). The 1st digit corresponds to the last digit of the year, and the other 3 days correspond to the day in the year it was made. My number was 2297, which would be 10/23/2012 and that does correspond to the test fire date shown on the envelope containing the spent casing.

                  Congrats!

I was just able to squeeze out of work during lunch to pick a lil' something up myself!

I envy you that .40 S&W chambering... please let us know how you like shooting it.

Care to share what you picked up with the rest of us?

As soon as I have time to get to the range, I will. I've got some home improvement projects scheduled for this weekend as well as two sick kids to handle so it may not be for another week before I can get a range report in. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pics up soon.

10-4. Yes; hope the kids are back on their feet soon.

Thanks for asking... I didn't want to derail your thread (much, lol).

I just bailed out my new Kimber Ultra CDP II .45! ...and i.r.xcytd.

(I own a SA "Loaded"; a full-size 1911. I have been wanting a micro for some time now. The SA EMP in .40 is not on The Roster so this is what I "settled" for. Hahaha.)

i see... very good info. i'm excited to see the birthday of my m&p9 in 9 days!
have you had a chance to test the trigger? some Calgunner claims that the m&p's made after december have the Shield trigger so the reset is more pronounced... wondering if that's true...

The "problem" is overblown by people who are used to other brands, like Glock.

                          Same with the reset "problem".

I researched the trigger before I bought the gun. My kids got sick just this week. No worries. I understand the mantra of "no pics or it didn't happen".

I did manage to squeeze in some time to take a quick picture. It's not the best as I don't have a tripod to hold the camera steady, but it's all I could get out for now.

By the way, the oldest one is getting better. The youngest one is getting over an ear infection and cold. He should start feeling better in the next few days.
