Beretta Bobcat 25 Auto : school me

    Question for you all:

I'm going to be gifted 2 handguns by my grandfather (using the proper grandfather/grandson paper/12 dollar fee and no FFL). He was a former LEO and has a Beretta Bobcat in 25 AUTO and a Snub Nose .38. I'm familliar with the .38 but haven't really ever shot an semi-auto pistol that small before (im a 1911 guy). Anywho, can y'all give me pointers/tips/things to look for/things to be careful of in the bobcat? I'd sure appreciate it!

    It's reliable.
The tip-up barrel is nifty and convient way to load a round in the chamber without racking the slide.

The Beretta Model 21A Bobcat series is pretty much a product improved double-action verison of the Beretta Model 950 Jetfire.

During the 1980s-1990s, a few friends of mine used Beretta Model 21A (.22LR) as pocketguns.
Back then there were only a few reliable pocketguns.

Original James Bond gun was a .25ACP Beretta (Model 418) pocketgun.

    Ummm...
The Report of Operation of Law or Intra-Familial Hadngun Transaction fee is $19, not $12.

Great little gun !! Tip up the barrel and slide in the round, stuff the clip in it and shoot away. I take mine hiking because it is so small you can just drop it in your pocket. I have mine loaded with Corbon Hollow points.
Reliable gun. Simple to use and you will really enjoy it.

Also, when measuring the barrel for the transfer of the guns...esp the snub nose...is it the total length of the cylinder chamber/barrel combined? or is it JUST the barrel on it?

Barrels are measured by inserting a dowel rod into the barrel until the rod stops against the bolt or breech-face. The rod is then marked at the furthermost end of the barrel or permanently attached muzzle device, withdrawn from the barrel, and measured.

The Beretta Model 21A Bobcat barrel length should be around 2.4".

Is it a model 21 , or a model 950? The 21 has the DA/SA trigger, while the 950 is single-action only. Either way that is a great addition to your collection!

I have shot both models in the past, and they were surprisingly consistent (I don't want to say accurate, because those sights were like threading a needle). As others have said, the tip-up barrel is great because some people have a difficult tie racking a slide, especially a tiny one like that.

edit: nevermind, the Bobcat seems to be the 21 model, the 950 was the Jetfire or Lynx, either way we're gonna need pix of both!

I'm also getting a snub nosed 38...is that measured the same way? dowel down the barrel through the cyl till it stops back by the hammer?

I actually don't know...I've never actually used either of his. He is looking to get rid of them and my dad nor his brother want them, so they're going to me. Once I get them, I'll for sure post up some pix! Free guns can never be a bad thing! Plus they were his backup carry guns when he was LAPD, so it's got some good history too!

Fun little pistols. They can fire a bunch of rounds down-range in a big hurry I have a 21A in .22lr I got when they first came out, I had a 950 before that.

I have the Beretta 32 auto Tomcat, not much different.

Honestly, if you need a pocket pistol in a pinch, it'll do what you need it to. But for your own fun or for your gf or wife, I really don't like it and am considering selling mine.

The thing is just too snappy. I can't get a good grip on it, your pinky finger is never on it. And I don't know what it is, but everyone who shoots it gets sliced and leaves the range with a bandade, and the spent casings smack you in the face or safety glasses with every shot.

I just never enjoyed it. I absolutely love it's older brother, the 92fs, but this one doesn't do anything for me.

I do have to add that the hinged barrel is pretty cool. It doesn't have a slide lock for the last round though.

If you have beefy hands or hold it too high, the slide will come back and make a nice new spot for a band-aid in the web of your hand.

I have the Bobcat .32 and the 950 Jetfire .25.
What they all said - fun to shoot, fits in your pocket and great for the collection.
Only bummer - only stock grips on the 950!
