Zip 22... picked one up yesterday!

Couldn't help myself. I thought these were nifty little things since the first press release, and when I was leaving the weekly Fun Shoot at a range/shop up here I saw it in a display case for sale. They had just put it in there! I didn't even know they were arriving at retailers yet, and they've always been completely "allocated" on Davidson's.

So... snatched it right up! ...a shooting review/video will have to wait until next week...

Check out the site if you're not familiar! http://www.zipfactory.com/pages/ZIPGun.aspx Lots of great accessories like top rail to mount optics on, a top rail that takes Glock sights, a threaded barrel (that I'm ordering up as soon as it's ready so I can use it w/ the suppressor... same w/ the railed top part). Hopefully they'll keep coming out with fun stuff to put on it.

Okay, against my better judgement I decided to do a video review and actually put it on YouTube:

Edit: well... I took the darn thing apart and figured I might as well get that on video also. So, here's the disassembly and assembly vid:

^^^ a bit awkward for the bottom two fingers w/out the magazine in it. The 10-round rotary mags (it uses 10/22 mags btw) fit flush with the bottom, and the 25-rounders stick down.

With a rail for optic and 25-rounder:

It actually fits in the hand quite nicely. They designed it pretty well with a palm swell and a thumb rest and such. When you put the second hand up on it, which has its own little places to go, it works just right. There's no mag in it in the photo so that makes it weird because there's no place for my ring and pinky finger. Normally they would be under the empty part with the flush mag in it and there's a lip on the back for your pinky to press up against, or they would be wrapping around an extended mag. It's cool because your palm is actually directly in line with the barrel, meaning it pushes straight back into your hand and arm so there is zero muzzle flip or rise at all, whatsoever (apparently. Haven't shot it yet). There's no slide, as the reciprocating part is entirely inside of it. Funky little thing.

You can, of course, mount it onto something else with a rail... but in this case it requires registration as an SBR. I suppose if you had an AR pistol you could mount it to the bottom, which would be pretty crazy (and almost certainly make an AOW, by the way).

A pistol on a pistol. What's so crazy about that?

Interesting design. Let us know how it shoots! Also if you don't mind. About how many bones did it cost?

$199. So... not too shabby! They're going on GunBroker now for at least $320 and up to $450, just because you can't find the darn things. I really lucked out just being in the right place at the right time here!

Well... it does not have a loaded chamber indicator of any sort (it has a striker cocked indicator, but that doesn't matter). It would require one to even be considered for addition to the CA Roster. So, at this point, no. Actually that's a "no" that isn't something you'll be able to purchase in CA from an FFL. Owning it would be 100% legal.

SEE long barrel would be very easy. Barrels from the company are cheap and swapping them on the gun is super simple. Not sure how you would make it single shot easily though. There's no way to lock the 'bolt' back. Ruger makes a single-round 'magazine' for the 10/22, but that wouldn't count. You need a 0 round magazine, since if it holds a single round you could chamber one and then insert the mag w/ 1 round and it would now be a 2-shot gun. Anyhoo... possibly a good SSE candidate if somebody can figure out how to easily make it single shot. I guess you just block a mag so it turns into a sled, and then you hold the 'bolt' back with the charging lever and toss the round in there and watch your fingers

There are 1 round 10/22 mags floating around from charger SSE's I almost ordered one last year.

Looks like all we need to do is swap the barrel and create a mag lock.

The biggest question is if the mag is "outside" the pistol grip.

So this thing on an AR pistol is good to go?

Looks like it is in the grip to me.

Nah. A) I don't think the gun even has what you could call a "pistol grip" at all! haha and B) if you could claim that any part of it = pistol grip, then I do think the mag goes right up in it.

NO!!! It would become an AOW. The ZiP would be a vertical/downward foregrip, which turns a pistol into an Any Other Weapon.

                        Here's their SBR stock:
