No because that would make your pistol an SBR and then you would go for federal POUND-YOU-IN-THE-A** prison for years

Not sure if ATF would consider the pistol buffer tube able to accept a stock just based on one product that was released. If it became very popular that might get their attention.

I think you missed the point of his question.

            Ah, no... It Does not

Nope. Nice try. The ATF with case law supporting this, that a pistol only becomes a SBR when the stock part is attached to the pistol. So just because there are parts on the mkt that will convert certain pistol into a SBR will not all of sudden turn all say pistols in people's homes into SBRs.

There are currently plenty of aftermarket parts that will turn Glocks, Sigs, 1911s into SBR. You don't see a national round up of Glock owners.

But it would be very unwise to have in possession any part that can only be used to convert certain type of pistol into SBR when you also have possession of that pistol.

In CA, what you describe would be "constructive possession" of a SBR. [PC 17170(e)]

It is okay to have a regular carbine or rifle buffer tube (designed to accept a stock) on an AR pistol as long as you do not attach a buttstock or have a buttstock nearby, ready to install.

Pistol buffer tubes are not required for an AR pistol build. Pistol buffer tubes do two things: (1) Make shooting more comfortable because the outer diameter of the tube is larger than a standard carbine buffer tube, and (2) helps you avoid accidentally having an issue with constructive possession laws if you own extra buttstocks.

Is a "rifle" length buffer tube legal to use on a "pistol" build?

I would just think id see at least one instance of one but i have never seen anyone use a rifle length tube on a pistol build.

Funny...owning a AR pistol and a AR long gun with stock don't count as constructive.

Either way, NFA is hopelessly out of date as gangsters no longer rely on sawed off shotguns and tommyguns to carry out their mayhem. Too bad the Supreme Court reversed the Miller decision at the district level.

Yes, a rifle length buffer tube is legal to use on an AR pistol build.

is it? with that logic you can use an 5 position stock without the stock on it as well. And I don't think that is legal/.\\\\i do run a cheek weld on mine though. CAA saddle

You just use 2 small zip ties. That isn't a pic of my ar pistol. Here is mine. With my little brother shooting it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359777348.082402.jpg

How is that not considered a butt stock? What legally defines a butt stock and a buffer tube?? (building one myself) ....also, what length upper is that, just for reference.
