    Moving To CA

I will be moving to ca in a few months and will be bringing some hand guns that I intend on selling. Do I first have to transfer them to myself in CA before I can sell them to someone else? Or am I safe if I do it in the 60 day grace period?

Not 100% sure, but once you have residency in California then you're good to go.
I'd be interested if there is more to it.

      CA Penal Code 12072
(f)(2)(A) On or after January 1, 1998, within 60 days of bringing a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person into this state, a personal handgun importer shall do one of the following:
      (i) Forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the Department of Justice, a report prescribed by the department including information concerning that individual and a description of the firearm in question.
(ii) Sell or transfer the firearm in accordance with the provisions of subdivision (d) or in accordance with the provisions of an exemption from subdivision (d).
(iii) Sell or transfer the firearm to a dealer licensed pursuant to Section 12071.
(iv) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police department.

No, you don't have to register them, if you sell them within 60 days.

However, suggesting you're bringing them solely to sell them isn't exactly kosher.

People are going to list all kinds of things they want, but the reason they'll do it is because they don't want to pay much above free-state prices.

You need to consider where the price differences are (there's a thread in the 2A forum now) that will help you make something and provide something people want.

Negotiating deals before coming would be ideal from a $ perspective, but that's about as law-skirting as you can get.

I suggest pistol AR lowers, as they will run you about $150, but you can flip them for about $250. Kel-Tecs will give you about $150/gun.

All 1911 frames from quality companies (STI & Caspian come to mind) will bring a premium... but again, maybe only $200 or so.

Again, look at the 2A forum piece, it has lots of ideas...

          YMMV

You don't need to transfer them into your name if they were origannly purchased by you as the serial numbers should be already registered to you. This is a federal law so it applies no matter what state you purchased the guns in.

Sir, I will have to disagree with you.

              CA Penal Code 12072

(iv) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police department.
Remember that the CA assault weapons law was based on the Federal Assault Weapons law. That fed law sunsetted, but the CA law still stands. The handgun regulations has nothing to do with the assault weapon law, I'm merely stating Federal law are different from State laws.

In this case all of these regulations is to get money from the gun owners. It doesn't make your gun any traceable, like Mr Kimber said

origannly purchased by you as the serial numbers should be already registered to you. This is a federal law so it applies no matter what state you purchased the guns in.
All it does is to put a burden on the gun owner and nothing more. Actually it's like extorting money, they are making money because they want to be paid per each gun brought in. $19 a pop to import a handgun to California. You know I wouldn't mind if I bought the gun in Mexico and importing it in, but a gun bought in another state that was taxed already shouldn't be taxed again. All these fees and taxes, isn't that how the revolution begin?
