Colt Diamondback- Help!

Just ran into a pristine .22 Four inch Colt Diamondback. It's been fired but not much. It is in 95% condition. No box or documentation. Guy is asking $1400. Is that a steal, or overpriced? I really don't want to wait, but I don't know the gun values. I know diamondbacks are rare though. Looked up serial number: date 1968
Should I jump?

For what it's worth, I just bought a 90%+ 6" .22lr Diamondback from another Calgunner for $700.

It's a 1968. Forgot to state it's a .22 cal.

It's on the high end of the scale, but Diamondbacks are rare and collectible, especially in 4 inch barrels. $1,000 to $1,200 depending upon appearance may not be out of line.

Might be that he has a built-in 20% cushion for negotiation.

It depends on how much you want one. My 4" .22lr Diamondback is a better shooter than my S&W M-17 and I'm not sure I'd let it go for $1400...and you'd never know that it has a couple of thousand rounds through it

$1400 for a .22 Diamondback is about right, if it had box and all papers.

Well, when was the last time you ran into one for sale?

If you really want it, offer $1,200 as a final offer. If you pay his asking price, its going to be a while before you could recover the cost if you had to sell it.

Good deal, you got one. You didn't steal it but beggers can't be choosers. Keep in mind that people bragging how much they scored a gun for usually only do so if they got it for a good deal.

I saw a 4" .22 Diamondback for sale a few years ago it was cheap, around $700 but do to improper storage it had some thick rust spots on it, not a lot, maybe 2-3 plus one in the barrel. The sad thing is it looked unfired.

It had a couple of very small marks on the side of the barrel. Could hardly make them out. Did not look like rust though. Almost looked like a small scrape from handling it. Since its a .22 and I personally have never seen one (was not looking though) I think i did not do bad. I did all the revolver checks and a couple not mentioned. Well its mine now. Cant wait to go shoot it. My wife is already talking about liberating it from me since she loved it too. She will let me shoot it "once in a while".

Unless its the actual revolver carried by Steve McQueen in Bullitt, I'd say it's way overpriced.

It's a good investment, Colt ain't making them any more, so you should be able to sell it for at least what you paid for it years from now.

True, it's not a Python, but it's a darn fine gun in it's own right. You did fine, especially in CA where you gotta take what you can get since it's not on the Roster and sooner or later, there won't be any more in CA if they are sold out f state.
