    Intra-familial Transfer

A buddy of mine is looking to properly register two revolvers he inherited from his father.

One of the guns has no serial number, it seems like this poses a problem on the Intra-Familial transfer form. Any idea what he can do to make this legal?

It's not illegal for him to own an unregistered gun. But if he wants to he can fill out a volreg form

That is a different concept from 'a transfer after 1991 must be reported'.

Inheritance is indeed reported via the OPLAW form; it is not optional.

If there's no serial (even after looking under the grips), just report that. Serial numbers were not required before 1968; an older gun, or the occasional import, might not have one.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

So the gun is a revolver from pre1900. He said he found a 3 digit stamped number on it, I'm guessing that would suffice.

Model is a Hopkins & Allen Mfg Co ACME Hammerless no. 3. Caliber is .38 S&W
