    Steyr SPP...

Is it transferable? or is it a AW?

If not a AW, any dealer in Nor-cal willing to do the transfer?

As long as the barrel isn't threaded (is it?? I never knew) then it should be ok. The magazine well is in the pistol grip, not outside.. I can't think of any other restrictions on it.

        The bbl is non threaded.

Unless weight is a consideration or if they are named?

I had a consecutive serial numbered pair of these when I lived in America. I should have kept them. I don't believe any low capacity magazines were made, though.

If the SPP is what I think it is, y'all might be right (commentary below...)

I dont think its an AW as defined by Calif: I don't recall barrel threading, and the pistol grip takes the magazine. However, the question of how the front-end is designed could be regarded as having some heat-shielding properties to allow a person to grip front end w/his hand. PC 12276.1(a)(4)(C) reads:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

So that could be interpreted as an evil feature.

[Weight is NOT a consideration - that was only for Federal AWB definition of AW for pistols, and is why Oly Arms made their drilled-out 'Swiss cheese" AR pistol to keep weight under 50oz unloaded.]

yup...the shroud is the area that i have problem with. based on the design, you can technically grab it.

the DOJ don't know too much about this model to give me a definite answer.

It was SOOOOO funny on their first reply from one of the "specialist"... I gave them the make and model number...and their reply was "that is not even consider a gun because it is gas operated...."....it turns out that she was looking at this model from Ebay...and looking up the airsoft model. Oh my....

Super! So a gas operated Desert Eagle isn't a firearm anymore, huh? Har har!!

Ok, nevermind. So I guess that means that one could legally manufacture a Cobray PM11 for personal use, given that if you omit the threaded barrel and all that, it's not breaking any CA laws? Wow! Maybe it's time to go get some receiver flats!!

                Looking at this picture

It looks like that barrel is threaded.
As far as a shroud, isn't that just the slide?

Aside from the AW issue(s), it's also not ont the list of CA-approved handguns.

So even if Steyr SPP were not considered an AW, you'd have to locate one in CA to be transferred to you via F2F PPT - a CA FFL couldn't order one or acquire one for you.

We're talking about a pistol here - the Steyr SPP is indeed a pistol. No, it CAN'T have a threaded bbl without being a registered CA AW.

And I'm pretty sure it'll be regarded as an AW due to the 'evil feature' of the front gripping area/heat shielding etc. even if it didn't have a threaded bbl.
