CZ hammer question

Ok, so a few of you finally convinced me to pick up a cz 75. I got the single action only model, and it's currently waiting for its 10 days to be up. I did, however, get a chance to handle it and dry fire it a bit and I have a few questions regarding the trigger pull.

Now I realize that this question is better suited for the CZ forums, but they don't seem be nearly as active as calguns, so I figured there would be a better chance of my question being answered here.

Well, after firing the gun I realized that the pull weight on the trigger was somewhere along the lines of 4-5 pounds (just an estimate), and it didn't break quite as cleanly as I would like. After doing a bit of research, I discovered that I can do a home trigger job on it, polishing the internals a bit to clean up the grittiness, and to just smooth things up a bit, however that wouldn't change the pull weight on the trigger. I found a competition hammer on Angus Hobdell's site that, along with a lighter mainspring, will supposedly make the trigger lighter and give it a crisper break.

My question to you is, have any of you installed the competition hammer on your own, or is it necessary to have a gunsmith do it? I'm rather mechanically inclined and the idea of the detailed strip and polish don't really scare me. Is the aftermarket hammer significantly more difficult to install, or is it doable?

I have installed tons of competition hammers. You do have to alter the safety and sear arm so that engages and locks the sear properly. The new hammer has a different pivoting angle causing the sear arm to sit lower when the hammer is cocked back.
and yes the competition hammer and new main spring will improve the trigger significantly. well worth the money

Thanks for the quick response kilword. So, are these additional modifications difficult to do, or can a relative novice who understands the basic inner workings of the gun accomplish this? Also, what kinds of tools would one need to do this?

I would first get familiar with completely dismantling the CZ and reassembling it.
get to know all the parts and their workings.
just be careful their are some really small springs that can be easy to loose.

To get the hammer installed you just need a punch set and hammer.
to alter the safety you could use files/sandpaper or stones

Believe me, nothing in the gun is getting changed until I understand exactly what it does and how it interacts with the rest of the gun. Would you (or anyone else here) happen to know of a step by step guide or something to that effect that would explain exactly how I have to alter the safety and sear arm? I'm talking about a simple diagram, picture, anything.

Thank you so much kilword. As an aside, since I have the SA model, are there any functional differences internally that I should be aware of, or is it essentially the same as the regular B model?

I have a 75b single action too. On mine I polished the sear and hammer where they contact. You can also pull the firing pin safety and polish it and the hole in the slide where it rests. I also went with a 15lb. hammer spring. Now my trigger is good. The only thing I would change now might be the trigger with a competition one that has the set screw to remove the take up. Other than that I'm quite happy with it. Mark

Not in NorCal but www.davesmetalworks.com was trained at the factory in CZ (I'm not even going to try and spell it.)
