Kahr cw40, thoughts?

Anyone has this gun and any thoughts on it? I been wanting one for CCW but on the fence with this, lc9 and sheild (If I can ever find one!). Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

It's a fine pistol. I have the PM40, which is similar, and it's my go-to gun for either deep concealment (shorts & T-shirt) or just-running-out-the-door-and-throwing-something-in-my-pocket. I love it.

The PM series is rounded a bit more, and has more finish machining applied to it. It's mostly cosmetic.

The PM has a machined slide stop (versus a MIM stop on the CW). The difference doesn't seem to cause a problem for CW users.

The biggest difference is the grip size - I can easily do pocket carry with the PM, but it's right at the size limit for doing so - the CW has a longer grip which would likely make pocket carry impossible.

PM also comes with 2 mags (one flush 5-rounder, one extended 6-rounder). The CW only comes with one mag from the factory. Dumb.

My PM40 is a handful but not a problem - if you're sensitive to recoil (I am not at all) it may easily be too much. I carry it with 155gr Federal HST. It shoots great - reliable and very accurate, and the trigger is fantastic: long but smooooth.

Kahr customer service is excellent. I've not had to send my pistol in, but those who have receive top-notch service.

My opinion is that it's made better than an LC9 or Shield (fit/finish, and the trigger is light-years ahead). I also have a personal policy against external safeties on my carry guns (which the LC9 and Shield both have). You also can't get those in .40S&W if that's what you want.

You should rethink on the kahr cw-40. I've owned the whole kahr line up as i love these guns, i ended up only keep my Pm9 and Pm45.

The snappy recoil on the cw-40 and pm-40 was almost unbearable. After about a hundred rounds i found myself anticipating the recoil. And i have about 50k rounds down pipe with my other 40 cal handguns. Just too light and too much snap. the lightest gun i'll go with a 40 smith and wesson would be my Springfield Xd40c.

I shot a cw40 about 2 weeks ago. Seemed plenty accurate and nicely built. But I'd have to agree with the other poster about the snappiness of it. I have pretty large/tough hands but after 4 magazines through one in less than 5 minutes my hands were more raw than shooting hundreds of rounds of .40 and .45 through full sized guns all day. For a ccw it seems great, but definitely not a joy to shoot every day at the range.

thanks for the input guys. I'm not too sensitive woth recoil...been shooting a DE 4mag for about 15 years now...as long as its as much or more I should be okay. It will be my carry so I wont be shooting matches with it although I will shoot with it to get familiar with the gun.

I guess my other question would be, is it concealable and dows ot function 100%. Cant have a 99% gun.

While my PM40 has functioned flawlessly, ANY gun is a mechanical device that can fail. Pursuit of a 100% pistol is pursuit of a myth. What happens when your gun has never let you down but the striker falls on a dud primer?

Regardless of what gun you end up with, it is imperative to train yourself to deal with FTF, FTE, dud ammo, etc, etc.

Thanks, I know 100% is not possible, but I like to think it. Makes me feel a little safer. There was a Ruger Millennium 40 my BIL had and that gun was so unreliable even after being sent in 3 times the problem still exist. He doesnt want to sell it because of that very problem so its sitting in his safe, forever. I dont want a gun like that hence my hunt for the 3 choice mentioned, but the other two are harder to find.

Always a challenge to decide on a small gun for ccw.

On one hand I really want one, but on the other, any thing I carry, I want to shoot it a LOT and if a small gun is too uncomfortable to shoot enough to be 100% confident in my accuracy, I'm hesitant to want to carry it.
