I carry a Glock on and off duty for 19 years. I know that Glock in 9mm will last MUCH longer than many other pistols.

G22 in .40 a weapon of choice in LE today.

G35 is used a lot in action pistol matches .

I don't know how they came up with 4 years....

Going from 15 rounds to 8 must be very exciting for the officers...

Don't get me wrong i love .45 acp too, but you have so many more options with a .40 or a 9 in terms of capacity and weight.

          Maybe

Maybe, hopefully, they will allow the officers to choose between the department issue weapon and keeping the Glock they used to issue. Or buying one of the Glock 22's themselves and using it instead of the Sig. I for one would want the extra magazine capacity for that one instance when you may need it. It's not possible to have too many bullets in a gun fight.

The Marines ordered new Colt 1911's. Makes me want to get a 45 acp!

Gun shop just saying anything to get contract " Glock has a life of four years while the Sig Sauer is expected to perform for 10 years" i call BS does that mean all glock owners needs to replace their pistol after 4 years? i know Sig Sauer are good quality pistols but glocks are not bad as what people says.

If .45 caliber it the new goal for this Department I would rather have a GEN4 G21 with 13 rounds than a SIG.

                    Just my preference.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

I must be doing something wrong, since my Glocks are still working for 4+ years.

I like where one guy said the Sig is a superior weapon because you can tell if it's cocked by looking at it

Yep. Same here (since mid '90s). I've only needed to change the extractor, and that was probably around 2005 (last year I did the trigger return spring and recoil spring, but just a routine - no performance issues).

                              +1 ROFL....

I own two sets of Glocks (17/19/26 and 22/23/27) and a few SIG's; P220 (3), P226 (3) and P228 (2), all German made. My personal CCW weapon options are : SIG P228, SIG P220 or a Colt Combat Commander .45. My "car gun" is a Glock 23 with night sights. The Glocks are just as if not more durable than the SIG's and just as reliable. (the new American made SIG's seem to have suffered in QC/reliability as production numbers and model variations have increased as of late)

In the hands of people who train as little as possible and dealing with the "lowest common demoninator" theory in any large group (military/LE), I think the Glock's simplicity is a better more reliable system.

While I agree that they just wanted new guns and SIG's are a "sexy" gun, I can understand the move to .45acp given LEO's poor overall marksmanship abilities. Having just 8 rounds in the gun willl have a lot more officers at the range improving their hit/miss ratio's...LOL

Another point is that the P220, being a single stack weapon, has a much more managable grip for those LEO's and CopChicks with smaller hands than the fat G21.

A final point is "natural pointability" and thats a function of grip angle. The Glock and SIG have two very different grip angles.
