    Problem w/new Springfield TRP operator

I have a brand new SA 1911 TRP Operator, my problem is that my firing pin stop is coming off and I'm worry that I might loose it. It seems that the firing pin is getting stuck.

Has anybody had a similar problem.

Sounds like a horribly dangerous situation. You should give it to me immediately to avoid any future accidents. Seriously though, give Springfield a ring. They have about the best customer service you could ever ask for.

I wonder if there are just a bit of metal shavings stuck inthe firing pin hole making the firing pin stick. Take the firing pin out and clean out the firing pin hole. If that doesn't work call SA, they may have overlooked something.

I have had this happen once , what the problem was the stop is too loose or small . I just put in a new that I got for free & that was that . if you buy one from brownells it will have to be fitted. Or filed to fit just right. Production 1911 all could use some handfittin & some new small parts.

The result of the firing pin stop sliding out was the my gun jammed with the slide back & was stuck on the discnector the firing pin was sticking out of it hole.
It took me at least a minute to stare at my gun before I push back the stop.
            a very strange one indeed.

I just called SA and was told by a tech that the rear sight screw might be hitting the firing pin hole and thats why my fireing pin was getting stuck. I will try turning the sight a couple of clicks to see if this resolves the problem. If it does'nt work I'll ask for a new firing pin stop.

I have a tighter fit one on my 1911a1 clone, but Mr. Lauck at D&L has this set screw for the FPS....http://www.dlsports.com/locking_1911..._pin_stop.html

A fitted firing pin stop is a nice featur. This increases reliability when combined with a fitted extractor. The fitted FPS prevents the extractor from rotating giving you a consistent tension and feeding. The rim of the round has to go through between the breech and extractor hook. If the rear sight screw can reach the firing pin hole it is not a smart design. Hmmm -1 on Springfield Armory.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Well I just spoke with SA customer service again. I tried the rear site screw and it didn't work. They want me to send it back to them.

Since I'm sending it to them, is there any recommend mods I should have them do while its there.

as you said your worriedabout losing your firing pin stop , just ask for a new one odds are it will work , you could measure yours tellem what's up & they coulds send a better/bigger one . I would try that before I sent my gun across the country.

                        Best !

I guess you can have them go over the whole pistol again? Tighten up the FPS, and a harder stiffer firing pin spring? Check the extractor tension or replace if it rotated in their? Did it hit the disconnector? Check for damage, marring etc?

Okay fellas, after giving it a 2nd shot and hating the fact I would have to send my baby accross the country. I turned the screw on my rear sight a couple more turns and that pretty much corrected the problem, the first time I only turned it two clicks.

After careful inspection, the rear sight screw does indeed partially enter the firing pin hole. After carefully inspecting the weapon was not loaded, I dried fired her a few times and the problem seemed to be fixed.

You know what... now that I think about it, I believe my TRP Operator had the same problem when I first purchased it.

SA suggested the same thing about the rear sight. I ended up sending it back to them to fix the issue. A hopefully unrelated fact is that my rear sight (actually the pivot pin) broke twice after that and had to be repaired by SA.

The last time, they installed a solid bar that seems to be much stronger and thicker than the origianl one and I haven't had any problems since.
