I'm looking at Sig's website and for it's CA compliant pistols they all have Loaded Chamber Indicators. Now I heard about the loaded chamber indicator thing a while ago but hadn't heard anything about it since. Was there some kind of law that passed only allowing guns handguns with that chamber indicator to be sold?? Does this mean you can't buy all the handguns you used to be able to?

It applies to all new handgun models that were not available in ca before that new requirement. (for the ca approved list) it is not retroactive. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=81127http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ -
Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) and Magazine Disconnects are now part of the CA roster requirements.
Pistols already on the list before new requirements are grandfathered in.
So if a new pistol (or a significant change to a model) wants to be on the roster it has to have those features.SB 489 (Stats. 2003, ch. 500) (Scott) (2003 bill - Provisions are operative beginning 1/1/2006)
Requires that effective January 1, 2006, no semiautomatic centerfire pistol model may be added to the roster of handguns certified for sale in California unless it has a chamber load indicator or, if it has a detachable magazine, a magazine disconnect mechanism. Also effective January 1, 2006, no rimfire semiautomatic pistol that has a detachable magazine may be added to the certified list of handguns for sale in California unless it has a magazine disconnect mechanism. Handgun models that have been placed on the roster prior to the new requirements becoming operative may remain on the roster without these features
This is why Glock Gen 4's are not on the roster.
And also is why Bersa Thunder "fell off" the Roster (they changed something and CA said it was a significant change)
As you know, the Bersa Thunder 380 was grandfathered onto the California DOJ approved handgun list.* It was allowed to be sold in California in several finishes and does very well there.* Well, I am sorry to say that as of this past Friday, we have been notified by the DOJ that the Bersa Thunder 380 has been removed from the approved list and can no longer be bought in California.* The main problem is that Bersa added the “key lock” feature to the slide, which CA deems is altering the function of the pistol, thus requiring us to have the pistol retested.* Only problem is, we can’t have the pistol retested because it does not have a loaded chamber indicator and that is one of the main requirements.
Long story short, we added a new safety feature, making the pistol even more safe, but we have to stop selling them in California.* Please remove all Bersa handguns from being sold in to California until further notice.
We will see what we can do about getting our pistols compliant and give it another shot.* Sorry for the news, as I know CA is a large market for most of you.* Also, please pass this on to the appropriate departments so that all your sales teams know what is going on.
Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.
Thanks, and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Best,
Rafael

Change the order of three words and the meaning changes.
There are loaded chamber indicators and there are "chamber load indicators".
All "chamber load indicators" are loaded chamber indicators, but not all loaded chamber indicators are "chamber load indicators".
So what a firearms manufacturer might call a loaded chamber indicator, may not meet CA's definition of a "chamber load indicator".
Per CA laws [PC 32010(d)(2)]...
Starting 01-01-2007, all semi-auto centerfire pistols submitted to be tested, to be placed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for sale, are required to have a "chamber load indicator" [PC 16380] and a "magazine disconnect mechanism" [PC 16900].
Penal Code 16380
As used in this part, "chamber load indicator" means a device that plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber. A device satisfies this definition if it is readily visible, has incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics, or both, and is designed and intended to indicate to a reasonably foreseeable adult user of the pistol, without requiring the user to refer to a user's manual or any other resource other than the pistol itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.
Penal Code 16900
As used in this part, "magazine disconnect mechanism" means a mechanism that prevents a semiautomatic pistol that has a detachable magazine from operating to strike the primer of ammunition in the firing chamber when a detachable magazine is not inserted in the semiautomatic pistol.
Penal Code 32010
(d)(2) Commencing January 1, 2007, no center-fire semiautomatic pistol may be submitted for testing pursuant to Sections 31900 to 32110, inclusive, if it does not have both a chamber load indicator and a magazine disconnect mechanism.sigpic

01-01-2001 = "unsafe handgun" laws went into effect.
CA's "unsafe handgun" laws are an example of what happens when gun owners do not stand together and only look out for their own interests.
It was passed because certain "pro-gun" groups switched, from opposing it to supporting it, once they got exemptions for their special interest/niche.Last edited by Quiet; 01-23-2013, 4:33 AM.sigpic

I was a riflegear a couple weeks back, and one of the guys told me that the reason SIGs that were already on roster had to include LCI and mag safety was because some kid was babysitting, removed the mag to a p226, tried to clear the chamber by racking the slide, wasn't strong enough, ended up pulling the trigger instead... don't know how much truth there is to this story but sounds like more education on gun safety could have prevented this...Comment

I picked my my Sig SP2022 just after Christmas. It did not have an LCI. I hope no microstamp.
I live in OC and bought it from an LGS.My Marketplace Feedback: https://www.calguns.net/forum/market...k#post54003245Comment

They're apparently "idiot proof" laws, designed to make it so that an idiot can see it's loaded.01-01-2001 = "unsafe handgun" laws went into effect.

Except that it's always loaded. Always. On the Second Amendment:

Yeah not sure about that bit.
the M&P has a hole in the top that you supposedly can see brass through.
Apparently that p**'d off CA. I heard something about having to replace the design of the LCI but I haven't seen it, personally. Mine's got the hole.On the Second Amendment:

A loaded chamber indicator that you can see from the muzzle end!! How about a tiny light that shines down the barrel so you can see the bullet in the chamber from the front?Comment

LCI is for all the morons who;
- Dont know to treat every weapon like it is loaded!
- Cant do a press check correctly
- Finger the tigger all the time when their sights are not on target and prepared to fire!
- Should'nt own weapons!Last edited by Ronin2; 01-23-2013, 9:03 PM.Comment

Some older stock is still around and does not have a Mag Disconnect OR a LCI. Good luck finding that.
However if you dont want these features an SSE is easy cheesey and can get you into the rig you want. Make sure to have a specific model # when getting an SSE.Comment
