    Looking for a P99

In the market for my first handgun and after everything that I've looked at and read, I want to get a Walther P99AS in 9mm. My only problem is that no one seems to have them in stock or has any idea when they might be back. Has anyone seen one around or have any info on when thy might be back?

    Thanks

I agree with this. I'd even suggest just go get a GLock 19.

My default suggestions for new shooters is the G19 or CZ 75 PCR or SP01.

And since it has been hard to find I've started to look into other pistols as well so l'll keep the recommendations in mind. Thanks smittty

Still want to see if its any one knows about it. Like I said, I've looked at a lot of stuff about the P99 and pretty much everyone loves it. It's something I've held before and I like the feel, all that's left is to shoot it. I appreciate the input on other handguns, but for now, just looking for info on the P99.

I own a P99 in both 9mm and .40 S&W but I am a bit of a collector and not interested in selling. Just to say they are fine weapons one would expect from Carl Walther GmbH but the quality and unique features of the weapon are a bit of overkill IMHO for a first time gun owner who has yet to shoot enough to knw what he is really looking for.

I agree with the other posters above...buy a Glock 19 and shoot it a bit. Keep looking for the P99 in the mean time and if after becoming more involved in the shooing sports/fraternity you want a P99 by all means buy one and having a G19 in your arsenal isn't a bad thing either.

          Cheers!

Actually the P99 has a nice decocking mechanism, ambi mag release, and adjustable backstrap. It's a very nice looking pistol too.

I found the SW99 to be more accurate in my hands though.

That is if you can find a G19 as those are becoming more difficult to find.

I have 2 P99s and a PPQ and I have to say that the "enticing" part of the P99 comes with it's ergonomics; the P99 feels much better in the hands than a Glock...at least to me.

Honestly though, you should buy what you really want and not settle. Why spend money on something you don't really want when you could put that money towards what you do want?

Stick with the Glock. While the Walthers a quality weapon, things are still "unstable" in the gun market today. Being that you're in California, its best to get the gun you can still get parts and holsters for, especially if the Federal or CA state government outlaw standard capacity magazines. With Glock, you'll always be able to get spares. Walthers? Good luck, especially if you end up limited to 7 rounds in the future.

                          Agreed.

My favorite guns are ones I bought at random , and the ones I 'planned' to buy turned out to be my greatest turds.

Bottom line - Get what suits your fancy. That said, go to a range and rent a Sig and see how it feels.

You may want to shoot one to see how you like it. I always wanted a P99, then I got the chance to shoot one. The trigger pull in SA was so hard that I had a really hard time pulling it let along being accurate. This was a range rental. Not sure what was going on there. You can't judge a gun with a single experience, but my point was it may be a good idea to shoot several different guns at a range to find something that you like
