    First Handgun Purchase

So after months of shopping and test firing I finally bit the bullet so to speak and purchased my first handgun. Originally I had been leaning toward purchasing a SA 1911 Mil-spec, however upon reflection I think I was more enamored with the styling and appearance of the 1911 rather then actual practicality. After about a month of just trying to track down one of these 1911s I finally found one and test fired it. Despite a limited knowledge of the weapon at the time I still found it didn't particularly feel right.

I test fired a number of other guns, and it seems like a lot of the ergonomics on a lot of common guns seem to be marketed toward folks with small hands, every gun shop owner seems to be a portly small person that swears by a weapon with a smaller grip. I was feeling a bit lost and was thinking of settling for something that did not quite fit right. That was until I tried the Sig P226, the gorgeous machine fits even my bearlike paws quite well. The thing shoots like a dream and even a noob like myself seems to put together decent groups at 15 and 25 yards.

Anyway love the site, been trollin around reading info for a while now, just happy I could join having just made my first handgun purchase.

    First off, welcome and congratulations.

Strangely enough, I bought a 1911 Mil-spec as my first handgun a few years back. I thought it fit me fairly well, but then again, I have small hands with stubby fingers.

The Sig is a great handgun, and I'm certain it will serve you well. Also, with ammo prices on the rise, you'll probably be very glad that you don't have to pay .45 acp prices.

Yeah the price of 45 did factor in my decision, most of my family is LE so getting my hands on 40 S&W which is what I got the sig in isn't too tough.

Congrats Bear! I love the feel of a wide frame 1911. Can't hit the broad side of a walrus w/ a single stack. But glad you found a gun that fits & works for you. That is the best choice!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

Congrats on your purchase, welcome to Calguns, and welcome to gun ownership! You appear to still be in school - UCSB? Great! Good place to introduce shooting to friends and acquaintances. Hope you can convert a few people to make their own purchases. Looking forward to seeing you posting and joining our growing online community.

Yeah last quarter of UCSB but surprisingly there is a fairly devout group of gun owners in the SB community probably hold overs from before the university more then anything. Been shooting for a while however first gun purchase and I am jazzed to say the least.
