ria 2011 tactical is home but...

Just got my first 1911. Brought home my RIA 2011 tactical from jail. I was reading through the manual and it seems that the frame of this 1911 is cast 4140 carbon steel, but the slide is forged 4140. Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but does this mean the barrel is also forged? I thought RIA's are all cast.

Anyways, the fit and finish on it looks great, but the front sight is crooked. There are three vertical bars holding the FO rod. The last bar is canted to the left and bending the FO rod to the left as well. Is this normal? I wrote Armscor about it and is waiting for their reply.

welcome to calguns and congrats! I just got my first 1911 a couple weeks ago... I'm sorry I can't answer your question though... I paid for a RIA 1911 Tactical compact model... I do not get it though until the first week of February so if you find out any info on your own post it back up here, might help myself and other RIA owners. enjoy your night!

call armscor directly i don't know how big their operation in NV is but they have always been pretty prompt with concerns and or questions and their gunsmithing costs are quite reasonable and fast

'OP, maybe this is a sign to get better sights? I'm actually thinking about sending the slide or the whole gun to Novak and having white dots installed; I can't see with the stock sights...

Yeah, maybe! I think I might also change out the trigger. It is very sharp. I did talk to Armscor, they are setting up shipping on Monday so they can fix the sight. It will probably be a while before I can actually shoot this pistol.

OP, i hope everything works out for you.
            Myk,
I was shopping around for some sort of sights that were more visible when i found a couple people talking about painting their own on the existing sights. After a few tries i found a toothpick and or a qtip can apply white out in a pretty darn close to exact circle. Of course its not permanent, so it will need reapplied every once in a while, but for free, its a sweet upgrade.

Lol, yeah I put some white-out on my Novak-style sights but, I think I want to do it right. Besides, I think my dots came out crooked ha ha...

Give them a call. They've always been helpful whenever I had a question/concern.
