    legal question

Regarding handgun transport in a locked container, does the container need to be in plain view, or can it be tucked under the seat out of sight?

HANDGUNS Pursuant to California Penal Code section 25610, a United States citizen over 18 years of age who is not prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, may transport by motor vehicle any handgun provided it is unloaded and locked in the vehicle’s trunk or in a locked container. Furthermore, the handgun must be carried directly to or from any motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while being carried must be contained within a locked container.

A little confusing to me as well. I carry in a locked container but never leave it in the open. Leaving it in the open invites the bad guys to take it away from me.

From the way I read the law, it's no longer considered a concealed weapon if it's unloaded and locked in a container. At that point you can legally place it out of sight.

      and http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Transporting

Keep the locked container anyplace you like.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

As long as it's in a locked container, does not matter where it is.

You know those maglocks? The key is a magnet and opens lightning fast, yet without the key in place the lock is indeed a lock? I wonder if they want a lock so YOU cannot get into it quickly...
