Ran a search only found one Ruger comment. Ready to buy, any thoughts on a Ruger P95 9MM, good, bad, indifferent. Thanks for looking.

I don't have any personal experience with one but it made the list on this site(#24):

I've never heard much negative about them though I'm sure you'll get opinions both ways and lots of folks with guns they prefer as well. Good luck on whatever you end up choosing.

I can only comment on the p90 (.45). I bought mine in the late 90's and it has never jammed or malfunctioned in any way. I have never had a problem with a ruger. My son bought one and the ejector was bad so he called the customer service. they sent out the new part over night. They offered to fix it but would have had to send the gun to them.

I've owned one (P95DC) for 15 years (12,000+ rounds) and have had zero problems. The trigger is OK (lots of take up and a bit spongy), the sights are basic (but they work), the ergos are OK (no finger groves and a high bore axis), and the mag release is a bit funky (slide forward instead of push in).

The gun has been 100% reliable (just as reliable as my Glock 17 and 19) with even the nastiest gun show reloads. I think it is the best value out there today for a budget handgun. The only real downside is the cost of Ruger magazines.

Even with all the other options I have available for her to choose from (Glock, Springfield Armory, 1911, Smith & Wesson, Browning) the P95 is still my wife's nightstand gun (she figures if it ain't broke don't fix it).

The Ruger P series are built like tanks - I have a P89 that I bought back in 1991 and have been quite happy with it's performance

Like everyone else has said, they are extremely reliable well-built guns. Ruger has an outstanding reputation for reliability, durability and great customer service. If you end up purchasing the P95 and need extra mags, check out Mec-gar magazines. They are fine mags at reasonable prices. Many manufactures contract with Mec-gar to produce their mags. Sig Sauer being just one that I can name off of the top of my head.

I have one, my first pistol, would recommend in a heartbeat for home defense, range, basically everything but CCW. Over 750 rounds with 2 stovepipe FTEs, probably from limp-wristing like the n00b that I am. I've even dropped it in mud, wiped it off and it still fired. Recoil felt much less than my freind's XD 9mm, or a Glock 19 I've also fired. Cleaned it thoroughly only once. after the first 500 rounds, mainly to say I did.

Some have said buy a nicer gun first, you'll end up doing it anyway, but I disagree. I bought it knowing I wanted a reliable, durable 9mm pistol for home defense and that's what I have. Not that I won't buy a nicer pistol (leaning towards an M&P40), but if my P95 is taken as evidence in a self-defense shooting, that's easier to take.

The only real downside IMHO is bulk......it's chunky.

im not too fond of them. dont own one personally but shot a freinds and he couldnt get 5 rounds through it without a fte. one of my cousins has one also and all i hear is complaints. I do hear plenty of good things about their revolvers and their long guns.

The best bang for your buck. Reliable and accurate for about $300. After you get the P95, get the PC9. The carbine that uses Ruger P95 mags. Just awesome!

i recently bought a P95 off another cal-gunner in basically new condition, so far it hasn't had any issues what so ever with any ammo i put through it (wolf steel cased, WWB, sellier and ballot, freedom munitions fmj and jhp, and underwood 115gr jhp) i am at around 800 rds and counting and the only signs of wear is the blueing around the rails on the slide.

keep in mind that it does use a double stacked magazine and therfore has a wider grip size. also, not much of a CCW gun, but great for the range or home defense, accurate pistol.

i'd say jump on it if its at a good price

For the $$$. tou can't go wrong. Like the other guy said, built like a tank. I have put maybe 5k rounds through it and have had good luck..also its pretty accurate. the only down side is that factory mags are on the expensive side. But they ship with 2.

The Ruger P95 is my favorite pistol. You will see why when you get yours. Its not the most expensive gun, but that is not even relevant.

My P95 has given me zero problems. It eats any ammo I feed it, even that dirty MFS stuff. Give one a try, I think you will like it.
