    xds,shield question

Looking into getting a XDS (40 if they ever come out) or the Shield 40. If anyone has the xds in the 45 or the shield yet. how does the quality of craftmanship seem to be... an major concerns, grips ect.....

I have a Shield 9 & I love it. I'm a pure Glock guy, but I'm definitely impressed with this gun. I haven't shot the XDs, but I don't care for XD's at all, so it's probably not my ball of wax anyway. The Shield 9 is extremely well designed & built, and shoots like a dream. I have seen quite a few bad reviews of the Shield 40, so I'd push you towards the 9. Shooting 40 out of a super slim compact/subcompact gun can't be fun, and several guys have had mags auto-eject from their Shield 40's when firing. Another recent issue I saw was another Shield 40 failing to release the striker when the trigger was pulled (both live & dry fire).

      9mm

9mm, yep i havent removed the 9mm of the list quite yet. Currently my conceable is a .380 so 9mm may work out. interested in these two models just because the slim design. If you dont mind me asking what pricing did you get the 9mm for.

I picked up my XD 40 yester day and put a 100 rounds through it last night. I am very pleased over all with it aside from the trigger( its a little long). For me it is well balanced and easy to handle. It fits my hand well and was easy to put rounds where i wanted them. I have not shot an M&P I am no use to you on that.

I had the chance to shoot both the Shield in 9 and the XDs in 45 yesterday at a friends house....only a mag though each, but WOW, I liked them both. The Shield slightly more, and the only reason was the takedown lever on the XDs. I have a problem with takedown levers on my P6/P228 my thumb just keeps moving around.

Both shot very nice, both fit my smaller to normal sized hand (G19 Gen3 fits me perfect) nicely. The XDs in .45 shot very smooth, no snap, stayed on target nice for the shorter length, lighter weight. I was very surprised on how thin both of them were...my EDC is a G19 and occasionally G30. I would be happy with either of them as a BUG, still a little concern about mag capacity as a primary.

I've put about 100 rounds through my XDS 45. For a gun it's size the recoil is very similar to my full sized XD 45 tactical. Grip is very aggressive to give you good hold. Changeable back straps if you want to customize to your liking. No problems in the first 100 rounds. I have no experience with the Shield 9 to compare, but I'd say the only downfall to the XDS is the price per round (well I guess these days 9mm is close to the same price as 45).

My shield in 9mm is now my favorite pistol. I installed the APEX trigger and ameriglo sights. I like shooting it more than my Glock 17.

I'm seriously considering selling all of my other handguns and buying two more Shields.

Shield 40 and XDS- If you are near me you can check them out. Fit and finish on both is excellent. The XDS is a handful and it will beat up your hand when you shoot. So it's a little hard to practice a lot but I still really like it.

I had the lucky chance to shoot an XDS about a month ago, I didn't feel that the recoil was that abusive, but I only went through one magazine. Are you a LEO or did you get the XDS via a SSE?

Springfield just unveiled the 9mm XD-S at SHOT Show (7+1 capacity, 10+1 with extended mag), but no sign of the .40.
