M&P 40 vs SP2022 40

Looking for opinions from those who have had both.

I'm looking into getting another full size 40 for the house and ill add it to my CCW for my travel car gun.


I've owned M&P compacts and I had no issues with them and i found the M&P trigger just fine, wish I would have kept one, but I didn't. I have a 4006 but looking for something lighter with a rail.

They both feel great in the hand, but I haven't shot a 2202 or a full size M&P.

Price is definitely a consideration i would like to stay at or below $500, and the Sig is about $50 bucks cheaper. $475 in my area.

Any one have both?

Go find a SP2022 to shoot, I love mine, its a .40. Love the trigger, very accurate, 100% reliable (so far) & gun just fits me but I do have short stubby fingers. Sorry but I have not shot the M&P, felt just ok in my hand. The Sig just felt better to me & bought it without shooting. Very happy with it. Only about 3000 rds so far. Don't think you can go wrong with either. As I've read in other forums, it may be very overlooked but I can't find anything bad out there about it. I over paid about $75 but still really happy I found it. You just see alot more ads for the M&P, don't let that sway you. I have shot other friend's metal Sigs and this trigger seems a bit nicer. He doesn't like to admit it but he likes the 2022 trigger also. I do like the trigger & feel on my older Walther P99 . Wanted a new light poly DA/SA but didn't want striker fire. I carry this when I go bow hunting alone in pot growing country just incase I stumble across something. This is what's next to my bed now with a Varidian laser/light.

Haven't shot the M&P, but handled one in a gun shop. Couldn't get past the trigger. Kind of gritty. Not a very good feel before it broke. But, on the up side, once it did break, it was quite nice. Decent reset. But, I just didn't like it much. Also, no safety-very Glock like.

The SP2022 can be had for about $400. Yes, mags are expensive. About $40-$50 each depending on who has them in stock. Most places are dry for the 10 rounders.

For me, the Sig SP2022, the metal trigger and the decocker with the DA first shot would be a good combo if for SD/HD. Some don't like the DA. But, with training, I think it can be o.k. The SA trigger is VERY nice. Smooth take up and there's a hint of creep in the trigger before it breaks. Fairly crisp. Once it does, its good and the reset is very nice too. I think it's somewhat better than some higher end Sigs. The grip is nice a comfy too. Recoil on my 9mm is minimal and the sights are really easy on these old eyes.

I own both but in 9mm. Personally the m&p9 fits my hand waaay better but even with the apex DEACK the sig trigger is 100x better. Shooting the sig is like cheating compared to the m&p, I point it and it goes right there. I have only put about 500 rounds through my m&p and am sure i'll get better with use, but i have to work for it vs the sig. Honestly the sig is pretty hard to beat for the money.

Like zedaristo said, that Sig IS pretty hard to beat for the money! Great trigger, great accuracy, great reliability (for me, anyway), and good ergonomics (the M&P DOES feel a little better in the hand).

I say, get the Sig! It's different enough from the Smith that youmay find interesting. I think you'll really like it. The M&P line should be getting the trigger update straight from S&W soon so you won't have to get the Apex kit.

basic Hammer vs Striker fired comparison. Shot the Sig sp2022 and it was ok. If I were to get a sig, it'd be either a pr229 or p226. Between the M&P and SP2022, I'd pick the M&P.

At about twice the price of a SP2022? Kind of tough to make an even comparison on that. Not sure of the price range of the M&P, but I would imagine it's probably in the $600 range?

Shoot both. Find which one works better for you.

Your budget is different then mine, plus I all ready have an all metal 40 that I love, looking for lighter full size.

I love my Sig 2022. Sig over S&W any day of the week. I think germans realy know how to make handguns

Owned both and sold both.

Shockingly, the cheaper SP2022 felt higher in quality but it was too big for my hands and the muzzle climb was pretty bad due to the high bore axis. Finally decided to sell it when it would have weird feed issues. Sent it back to SiG for a looksy but came back with same issues. Friend suggested it might be me limp wristing but I don't experience this with any other gun. Trigger was nice for the price and for being a DA/SA.

M&P40 felt cheaper in the hand and factory trigger sucked though crisper than a Glock but it had a weird hitch to the pull. Size was ok for my hands but still not much better than my Gen3 Glock. Firing pin broke during dry fire practice and S&W blamed me for not using snap caps. I doubt their USPSA shooters use snap caps during dry fire. Btw, they also said I shouldn't be dry firing anyways and that to only pull the trigger at the range. Sold after getting it back for repair from S&W. Considered getting another one and thought my bad luck was due to it being early gen model. Saw similar issues on recent posts from other forums and decided against it. Only considered again because the M&P does shoot .40SW really soft due to low bore axis.

You should be able to come across a used P229 or P226 for about $550. My brother has the P2022 in 9mm and I have shot it. The P2022 in 40S&W without the loaded chamber indicator on the top canbe converted to 357SIG with a drop in barrel from SIG. Now you have something
