XD Mag Release

So I have a 5" XD40 that I normally carry around when I am at home, when the mag is at full capacity the release button is extremely firm. I almost have to push as hard as I can with my finger to release it, anyone else have this issue? or is it even a issue or is it designed to be this way?

i've got the same issue with my 4" XD40. it's only like that if the magazine is full and nothing in the chamber.

My XD45 is the same. Doesn't really bother me. Is there a particular reason you would need to quickly drop a full mag?

No, its just something I noticed since I spend all day everyday fondelling my guns since im at home disabled.

mine did the same thing. since i have since switched the stock mag release to a "production legal" extended mag release i have not had this problem (since i can get more leverage). however, if this gun is to be used for home defense, i wouldn't suggest an extended mag release as it can get caught on stuff.
to ease the mag drop process, lock the slide to the rear and it'll be easier to drop the mag. (at least on my xd9 service)

It's mostly the fact that the mag release button is fairly short and you have to push it at an angle because of the hump in the frame. The best answer is to use a slightly extended button. It gives you a much better angle then the stock one has makes dumping the mag a lot easier. We make one that is extended .200" and it makes a huge difference.

Are you talking about dropping a full mag while the slide is in battery?

....if so, you have the loaded mag spring trying to push the magazine out the bottom, against the mag release, so of course it is going to be hard. Try it with the slide locked back and it should be fine.

If you want to make it easier, push up on the mag before you try to release it. That will take the spring tension off of the mag release and it should push in easily. I think you are experiencing a non-issue, simply because you are playing with it in a non-typical situation....trying to drop it fully loaded with the slide in battery.
