    Sig P220 beavertail question

Can the beaver tail be added to a model that does not have it originally? also is it hard to source this part?

Also, is it better to get the p220 elite or just the stainless steel model if grip and possible trigger changes are going to be made?

Short answer. No you can not add a beaver tail to the p220.
Internally, the elite and the stainless are the same, except for the SRT, which can be added.
The rest of the differences are cosmetic, tail, front slide serrrate, and wood grips

I'm curious, what it is that you're trying to achieve?

I do not think the beaver tail on a Sig is an add on part. It appears to be part of the frame if I am not mistaken. Looking at my P220 I don't see a way to add one on without extensive work that is way beyond my skill level. Not sure what type of mods your thinking of doing so the choice between the two is difficult to say.

Just looking at the differences between the two. I dont really need the beavertail but I dont think adding one on and the other minute differences are worth the extra money. Am I right on this one?

It is not a must, if you don't notice the problem, don't change it.

The big thing is whether the P220's frame is stainless steel or if it's aluminum. If it's steel, it's probably not a big deal for a skilled welder to add material and machine the beavertail. If it's aluminum, you're going to have to look really really hard for someone who can weld aluminum. And it will likely be expensive.

You can have one welded onto a stainless framed 220ST. If you're going to that trouble, you mind as well do it right and get one the width of a 1911 one and have it undercut too.

You could also have your frame cut and a magwell welded on

...or, have the hook rounded off on the trigger guard...like this alloy framed 220

My choices are between this 220-45-SSS at $939 or SIG220-45-CP-DS at $999.
What do you guys think? should I wait until the possible legislation passes?
                              feedback greatly appreciated
