S&W Sigma is not that bad

I got an sw9ve from turners which should be $270 after rebate, i finally shot it today.
I shot about 150 rounds, it did not jam once, it fed both HP and FMJ fine.
It is fairly accurate at 10 yards, better than my shooting anyways.
Yes, the trigger sucks at first, but this is partially because it came from the factory dirty and full of grit.
If you clean it out thoroughly, it is better, though of course still not as good as my sig pro.

There's a $2 trigger job you could give it ..... My cousin did it once with some jewelers stuff or something he put on the action.....improved it a little...

Glad to see the Sigma is slowing (very slowly) getting better reviews. When I was researching for my first gun I kept hearing all the horror stories and then later found out that they came from the 1st gen Sigmas or something someone had heard from someone else and so on. Rented one to give it a try and bought one the next day. It's a cheap gun that does what it needs to do, no more no less. Took mine out today and reached 1500 rounds through and no problems since day 1. And the trigger gets smoother with every shot, no extra effort needed in my opinion.

My first handgun was a sigma sw40ve, and besides the terrible trigger it was a great gun. I sold it to buy my first XD, and I regret it every once in a while.
I had 2500-3000 rounds through it with no problems at all.

Could you explain more regarding this trigger job? My brother has one of these in .40 S&W and always complains about the trigger (shooting my GrayGuns P226 ruined him). Is it something one can do at home?

I own a 40ve. I have put about 2000 rounds down it not one problem. Its not a bad gun, the trigger pull is a bit heavy, but it has actually made me a better shooter with my other handguns. Most of the problems you hear about are from 1rst gen models.

I haven't done this yet, but am planning on doing it this weekend. Its a good gun for $300 and goes boom everytime. This is not the gun I keep out of my safe next to my bed. I take it hiking with me though. Easy for me to justify this gun bouncing around rather than others I own.

I have one in 9mm.. I have abused the crap out of her and she still fires each time. Cheap gun to go plinking with.. I would never consider it a self defense gun for me..

I pulled the pigtail spring out of the trigger group on my 9ve. the pull is lighter now. it could still stand to be smoother though, i might just polish the metal parts to get them smooth

I frequent the MP-pistol boards (all about M&Ps) and there's plenty of sigma owners there that love their sigmas just fine. Sure there's the obvious crap they get, and then those comments end with a "you get what you pay for."

My guess is that the sigma is to polymer pistols what the RIA 1911 is to 1911's. Both are excellent plinkers, made cheaply, but still do the job..but are by no means nice collector or qualified HD weapons (of course the RIA would be more inclined to be a qualified pistol since GIs all over the world have used them for 60+ years if I'm not mistaken).

The sigma in .40 was my first pistol but I've only had it for about 4 months and only put about 250 rounds through it I can't say much as to how it's going to hold up over time but I can say that I'm happy with it. The trigger is heavy but if thats going to make my shooting better in the long run I'm down for dealing with it.

I had one of the first batch, did not like it. the trigger never improved for me. Kept it for 4 years shot it a lot, it never jamed on me but I had to aim high and right to get on center.
I let others shoot it and same thing so I know it wasn't me.
I traded it in on a .38 snubby.
I hear they have improved, but FWIW I'd go with the M&P for about the same price.

I bought a 40ve as a first gun a few years back. Looking back, it was not a good first gun mainly due to the snappiness of the .40, and the cost of ammo. This led to developing a flinch, and not getting enough practice in on it.

It sat unused in my safe for a while but I took it out again recently. I found that after getting a lot more practice on other calibers (.22lr and 9mm mostly), I can shoot the Sigma much better now.

Not to mention that, in it's stock configuration, it's been very reliable. I did try a reduced power striker spring and an extra-power recoil spring and had a few issues, but they went away as soon as the stock springs were re-installed; cant blame the gun for that.

It isn't the nicest gun in the safe, but it gets the job done.

Why is this? Based upon your statements, it seems like it might be an ideal candidate for a defensive weapon. Not only that, but if you did have to use it, you wouldn't be out too much when the cops confiscate it and you never see it again. Just curious...

Because it's in 9mm and I prefer .45 for Self Defense
