So I bought a Sigma 9mm, used from someone. The accessories he threw in tipped me into buying it. But it turns out the accessories are crap (except the range bag). I ended up removing the hogue grips. Not properly sized for it, kept blocking the magazine release.
He had Laserlyte sights, worth about $150 new. But both the laser, and the rear sight are horribly off (he said they were sighted in). I did have a guy with a boresight check and confirm that it wasn't just my bad shooting. But worse is that it doesn't work right. I put four new batteries in. To get a laser to actually go on you have to play with the tightness of the battery lid. Sometimes it gets stuck on. And only rarely does it go out further than 3 feet from the gun (if I am that close, I can just point shoot). Shaking makes a difference. At the range, when I gave up and turned it off, it would go back on after recoil, or sometimes go into blinking mode and wouldn't turn off.
I tried removing the sight and replacing the factory rear sight, but I cannot get it to budge. Took a screw out, used a brass punch...So three questions
1. Is there something I am missing about removing it? I don't want to use excessive force (maybe that is how it got screwed up anyways). The sight is the same as this one: http://www.laserlyte.com/products/rtb-xd
2. Anyone have an idea of what is wrong/ possible fix? Bear in mind when the battery cap is all the way tight it doesn't work or gets stuck on. So tightening it more isn't the solution
3. How can I lower the rear sight (not the laser beam itself) or raise the front
The sight was made for a Glock. So the iron sight doesn't align right elevation wise. It needs to be significantly lower, but no adjusting as far as I can tell. Also appears that the laserlyte is locktited it in the dove tail.
Any tips on how to undo that? I figure once off the gun, if I can see what is wrong and fix it, I could sell it to a guy with a Glock. Brand new they are $150. In fact, that was the straw that pushed me over the fence on buying it. But no good if it doesn't work either as a laser sight or as regular one.
Since it was a very windy day at the range (we had several dust devils come down range and rip apart targets, never seen that before), sand and grit got into everything, including the trigger mechanism. Disassembled it and had one spring fly off, cannot find it. Looked up a video and it turns out the spring and one other are unnecessary, and were added to increase trigger pull to 8-8/5 lbs. So took the other out and saved it. Now the pull is about 4lbs (much nicer). But I figure I should find that lost spring anyway and that way I can restore it to factory specs if I sell? Or would that be unnecessary? Might be easier to sell with a 4lb pull
