    PPT of a CZ75 upper

I have a CZ 75 Kadet and I have the opportunity to get a .40cal 75b complete upper. My question is the upper is serialized,, does that mean we have to go through an FFL for a PPT of the upper?

As an aside, I was surprised to learn the barelled "upper" of the Ruger 22 semi auto pistol is "the pistol" part. I'd always assumed it was the lower "grip frame" but it's not.

IIRC it depends on the serialized part, and reverts to the frame on ones where every part is serialized (most guns that are imported or exported out of the US to meet other countries more stringent laws) .

Don't hold me to it though.

Naw keeping the Kadet upper. Need flexability. When I run out of .40 I can quickly switch to .22,, I have lots of .22 when the gun grabbing zombies start coming.

Yeah some countries consider the "firearm" part to be different than what the BATFE says it is, or otherwise require that serial numbers be on other parts of the gun. Some consumers like them marked so, for instance, when buying a used gun they know that all of the parts are original and matching. This was really more of a concern back in the day when each gun was a bit more of a snowflake and each part had to be hand fitted to each other part to work properly. Anyway... that's why there's a serial number on the slide and often the barrel, etc.

The slide in this case is just a part -- just a piece of metal -- and can be treated as such. You can throw it in a USPS box and ship it anywhere in the country or buy/sell it locally just like it was a paperweight.

                        WAIT...

If you have the Kadet, as in the full handgun that comes from the factory as a .22, rather than a Kadet upper conversion for a centerfire CZ75 frame, you cannot simply put most centerfire CZ slides on top of it and expect it to work. The Kadet frame does not have a firing pin lifter, so you will first HAVE to remove the firing pin block from the slide. This is easy and non-permanent to do, but don't forget to do it.

I *think* the frame itself is the same as a normal 75 frame and that, other than the lifter, this will work. I am not sure though. I have this weird memory of seeing something saying that the Kadet frame could not be made to shoot centerfire, but that may have been a CZ-USA official document where they could never actually suggest that you remove the FPB. Hopefully that really is the only reason why a centerfire upper wouldn't work on that frame.

BTW -- you will probably also need a different slide stop in order to get the slide to lock back on empty
