    Glock long slide question

I'd like to do a 6" slide for my Glock 20sf, but I'm not sure how best to go about it. For those of you better versed in Glocks, am I better off piecing the slide and components together myself or buying the complete package from someone? Is it possible to have a complete 6" "upper" that I can swap back and forth with my stock slide, or do Glocks not do well with that.

I'm new to Glocks (long time/many 1911 owner) so thank you for the help!!

Lone Wolf Arms is the largest manufacturer of aftermarket parts for Glocks. We also have M&P Shield, Beretta/Taurus, and Browning Hi-Power parts.

Buy a long slide and barrel and then you can swap back and forth. The following is a direct "cut and paste" from the lonewolf web site.

"This custom LWD-SLIDE20L is the same OAL as the factory G17L & G24 Long slides 8.85 inch or 225mm. This slide requires a 6.02 inch barrel. Fits Gen3 G20, G20 SF frames and accepts all Lone Wolf conversion barrels 40 S&W, 357 Sig, 9 x 25 Dillon. Will also allow you to easily convert your Gen3 G21 or G21 SF to fire 10mm."

They sell those slide w/o extractor, striker, etc. right? Does all the stock stuff just drop in on these or is it all 'smith-to-fit like my 1911s?

      Thanks!

Correct, bare slide. No sights or internal parts. They do sell all necessaary parts to complete the slide. They will also "build" a complete slide for you. Their web site says "minor" fitting may be required.

I sit worth the trouble compared to just dropping the six inch barrel into the stock slide assembly?

I'm not sure, but I'd like to use the 6" upper for hunting, so the longer sight radius and some target type sights would be nice. I still carry the gun for defense from time to time, so it'd be nice to have the stock slide/barrel with the SD sights on it still and just be able to swap the slides back and forth.

I have a 3rd Gen G21 I would love to put a long slide on and a red dot just for a fun . Plus with LWD you can shoot reloads.

The easiest thing to do is just drop the 6" LW barrel into the factory slide. The gain in velocity will be minor compared to loading your own hot rounds for hunting. For a much better sight as distance, consider a red dot. You can put the entire upper together by yourself, but if you have no experience with Glocks, it would be better for LW to build it for you. LW makes very good quality parts, but they are aftermarket and not necessarily within the tolerance window of factory OEM parts. I have built a complete G34 upper and G24 9mm upper with no issues, and did not have to do any fitting, but some parts fit a little tighter than factory.

You can shoot reloads in any Glock, everyone who shoots competition reloads. A fitted aftermarket (not drop in) barrel with a chamber finished reamed to your load to improve accuracy is the reason for cut rifled barrels. It just so happens lead is way, way easier to clean from cut rifled barrels.

Drop in barrels will be no more accurate than your OEM barrel, unless by pure tolerance stack up, it creates a very tight lock up.

I'm curious to see how the lone wolf product pans out. I'm waiting on a lone wolf frame and have a 17L complete slide on order with them.

I believe the ability to shoot reloads was a reference to shooting handloads with cast lead bullets, instead of jacketed handloads.

                        ^ this

For those of you who have done a 6" slide: How did you go about it (build or buy complete) and what, if anything would you change if you could do it over?

                        Thanks!!

I bought my bare slide from Lonewolf and bought the barrel as well. I bought the parts needed and just assembled the upper unit myself in about 10 minutes. I also polished by hand using a surface plate and compound to get the side of the slide looking a bit better.

This unit will fit on any of my Glock 20 or Glock 21 frames. It runs 100% and I use a 22 pound RSA (also from lonewolf).

Sitting on my Glock 20OD frame

Eventually I bought a G20SF Frame from Glockmeister (on sale via email alert) had it shipped to my FFL and now my longslide has a permanent Frame.

I run a 20 round mag and a green laser. Extremely accurate and you can plink with it out to about 150 yards with bad eyes...(like mine..haha)

This is a perfect woods gun or in the car for long trips. (unloaded in a locked case)

I also have a Dillon 9X25 barrel (6 inch) for this slide.
