Shipping a pistol... ??

I have a question.

I have someone who is interested in purchasing my CZ75 i have for sale, but they want me to ship it to their FFL in Southern California.

What is the proper way of dealing with this? Can i just ship it out myself to their FFL? Do i have to ship it from my local shop to theirs?

Is there a certain way of packaging the pistol?

Any links and personal experiences would be appreciated.

You can legally ship to the FFL yourself; but it's up to the FFL whether s/he will accept guns shipped from non-FFLs, so call ahead.

The CZ must be on the Roster; it isn't a PPT (which is exempt from the Roster) unless both CA residents appear at the SAME FFL (though not necessarily at the same time). Since you would be shipping, you wouldn't appear at the FFL at all.

Additionally you can't ship USPS. I have been using UPS but they now require an overnight shipment, if insured, which adds to the shipping costs.

You can go to fedex with the pistol, sit your arse on the counter in front of them with your pants around your ankles, and after you comply with their request to firmly grasp your ankles they will explain how everything is gonna go down.

OR, you find your neighborhood FFL that you have a good rapport with and pay them a nominal fee to help ship for you. You still will likely come out financially ahead.

seriously, just pack as per any other "machine part" and take it to your fedex service center (MUST be a service center, not mom and pop's hey-we-do-fedex-too center), and tell them you want to ship this nondescript cardboard box nicely packaged. Declare it is a firearm and they will be happy to help you will the paperwork and shipping requirements. It will be expensive. Very expensive. No idea what would happen if you DIDN'T declare it's a firearm. I don' recommend that.

Or you ask your FFL to help you, since they get a break on shipping.

No legal requirement to declare the contents if it goes to an FFL or if it stays inside one state - but might be a violation of the shipper's terms of service; something goes wrong, you're on the hook, not them.

In order to insure the package you must declare the contents. The last time I went FedEx they wanted to actually see the packages contents. This may be different if you have a FedEx account you use on a regular basis.
