    .45ACP = Stopping Power
    1911 = Browning dependable platforn
    Together makes an effective combat weapon which will drop a perp high on drugs or high of the Adrenalin dring battle.

        Then why did a Good Samaritan have to shoot a bad guy 3 times in the head with his .45 ACP to stop an assault on a cop?
        The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
        The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.

        The 1911 may have been in wars for 100 years, but Masetro Bartolomeo Beretta was arming the world 400 years before John Browning was ever a wet dream.

          Simple. The First shot did the trick. The seconds was for good measure and the third was a nervous twitch.

I also got the impression (I never asked), that they carried their own POF's (as secondary's) Do you know if thats the case dc2? I'd ask next time, but I am getting to slow for that crap, and I'm done with it, no matter how good the pay is
            No they dont carry their personal weapons as secondaries.Depending on the budget of the unit they get to pick what weapon/accesories they want the SF guys usually go for sigs for some reason.Im an infantry guy so I carry what they give me currently im carryng an M4 with an acog and some crappy sling I did bring my personal p mags with me though.

              i would prefer a gun with more than 8 bullets in a combat situation.. but i must be crazy.. i dont know why they like it but i know the LAPD has an over 2 year waiting list for 1911 qualifications.. i think its the badge of honor thing.. plenty of guns out there shoot ad accurately and as efficiently as a 1911 that weigh less and hold more rounds.. i dont like 9s but ill take a 40 over a 45 any day

                When you are out of ammo, you can still beat the enemy with a block of steel.

                  I never said anything about gender. And since seals do not have the ability to stand (flippers not feet) I'd guess they pee in the prone position. Most likely in the water while swimming.

                    1911 debate are always interesting..
                    As an casual observer.. people higher on the food chain have bigger budget and have more choices in their sidearm. And high end 1911 will need a bigger budget, both the gun and maintenance.
                    Put it another way soldier or LEO on the top will have their pick from the $499 glock to the thousand dollar 1911 (and some do carry cheaper guns) but LEO or soldier will be stuck with cheaper but also very capable guns.
                    But why break the bank with a high end 1911 if another gun can do the same job? I think it goes back when NYPD started the with DAO practice, and many dept. followed. Then the aura of been able to carry condition-one on duty separated the man from the masters.

                      There was a reason we went form 38 to 45 in American history.
                      [QOUTE]Which history? Every American military pilot "form" the mid 30's to the 60's had a .38 special revolver with them, if they remembered to bring it. None had a 1911 condition one unless the wanted to add a buttstripe to any other problems they had.[/QUOTE]

                      You probably missed the Philippine-American War, right after the Spanish-American War in 1900.

                      Gen John "Blackjack" Pershing was assigned in the Moroland, Southern Philippines Muslim Land. Moro warrior, specially the "Juramendo" attacked christian military as their road to paradise, their are the Juhadist of the 1900, armed with the native jagged double blade sword they attacked and killed US Soldier even they were shots several times with Krag 30-40 and 38 Long Colt revolver.

                      Pershing requested the US Army to have larger ammo to stop the moro in the philippines. US Army did studies and finally concluded that a 45 caliber has sufficient stopping power, at the time John Browning develop a autoloader Pistol in 38 and he re designed this pistol to accommodate .45 caliber cartridge and Colt produced the pistol for US Army. Although, 1911 Pistol was first used in Mexico when Gen John Pershing and then Lt George Patton was ordered by President Wilson to hunt Pancho Villa.

                        We all know the 45 is bigger than the 9. A nicely tuned 1911 has one of the best triggers out there. After that the 1911 does not have any advantage over modern handguns. And if I'm using a backup weapon something has gone wrong. I might be in retreat mode, outgunned or injured. I would rather have more rounds to send at the bad guys than a single stack will offer. Cover fire would be on my to do list if I needed to retreat. And as for fire power if I had a choice 10mm is what I would choose.

                        Man I wish Sig made a 10mm..

                          Don't worry, Glock makes one. Or there are lots of different 1911s made in 10mm. And lots of Sig in 10mm short.
