    Kneepads for tactical training

Moving up to the next level in my hand gun training and need to get some knee pads. What do you guys recommend? Are the Altalok brand the "good ones" to get?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

I have always just used old Army issue, not they latest and greatest but does the job. I always see them for sale, EBay and surplus stores.

The Home Depot ones work well and are cheap. If you want something cooler and more tactical, look at the Arcteryx.

Do you have bad knees, if so I recommend padded ones. I've been to all kinds of training and have never needed knee pads. But I've done other sports where knee pads are a must and they need to either integrated into my pants or I would wear volley ball type ones underneath. Those won't slide down to your ankles like the ones you wear on the outside. Trust me, if you are going to be in an environment where you NEED knee pads you don't want to be messing with them and you want them to be comfortable. The best ones are the pants with integrated knee pads that are designed for active sports as they are the most comfortable.

Just to add, look at paintball stuff they might have some good pants that have integrated kneepads. I also like G-form kneepads for inside the pants or w/ shorts.

          Thanks for the input guys.

No, knees are fine, but I'd like to keep them that way. The classes that I will be taking recommend them, and since they are at various ranges, I just want to be prepared and as comfortable as possible.

ive used cheap knee pads and they save your knees 100x over then not having them. At first I thought they were too taticool, but after spending hours kneeling and shooting, kneeling and shooting, and kneeling on empty spent cases, your knees will be happy.

I had to get some for a Gunsite class last year. If being tacticool isn't your goal, the ones at Home Depot or Lowe's work just as well

I use the Altalok ones and they've been fine for use in handgun and carbine classes.

Kneeling on empty spent cases...ouch.....hadn't thought of that. I was mainly thinking about the different types of surfaces that I have encountered at training so far.....gravel, rough concrete.....and I am sure mud will be there at some training sooner or later.

So far, I like the looks of those, and the pricing doesn't seem too bad either. As someone else suggested, I might also look at some of the paintball equipment.

Maybe I can use of my old knee pucks from my motorcycle road racing days? Kidding, of course.

I've used "cheap" Hatch knee and elbow pads. Even the foam inserts in the 5.11 pants work ok if you have good knees.....

The deluxe are what I wear for work. I kneel in gravel and on rough concrete. if you are running and need to slide to a stop get the hard plastic. these are gel lined and very comfortable. DR

Yeah, I think I am going to go for the hard plastic type.
