    HSC renewal

I saw on another thread that some mentioning you did not have to take the test to renew your HSC. Is that true? I need to renew mine and just wondered. I wouldn't mind having to take the test again it is always good to refresh, but maybe the fee is cheaper if you don't? I couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere so I ask here.....Thanks ladies and fellas...

You will have to retake the test at your renewal.

yeah, just in case you forgot about which end to point the gun, you need to prove it again every 5 years. The original HSC (which I had) didn't expire. Now they do. It's another tax/harassment of gun owners.

I didn't have to re-test either. I think it helped that I went back to the place that issued me the HSC the first time (for me it was Turner's Pasadena). Just a $15 fee and got a new card good for another 5 years.

I just had to renew at Turner's last week. I was told by the counter guy at the Orange store that up until recently Turner's did not require a re-test but have now changed that policy. I can tell you with certainty that Turner's now makes you take the test again and pay $25 (did the price increase after the beginning of the year?) for the renewal.

A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!

the fee for the HSC has always been $15 for the card and up to $10 allowed for the instructor adminstering the test. if you lose your HSC, you can go back to the instructor and have a replacement card issued to you for $15, the replacement cost for the blank card. The instructor doesn't make any money for a replacement.

As for renewals, there isn't any such item in the PC. you just take the test for a new HSC card and the $15 card + up to $10 instructor fee applies again.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
