    SIG P226 Vs. SIG P229

I was at the gun store today. They had a P229 in stock but no P226. I wanted to compare the feel of a P229 to a P226, but I couldn't because they were all sold out of P226's and P220's. The handle on the P229 felt real good in my hand, but if it had been just a tad longer, it would have been perfect. Is the handle on the P226 longer than the handle on the P229 ?

the p229 is short and fat compared to the p226. 226 grip is a tad thinner and a little longer

        Image from google:

I don't really see too much difference in the grip width, but the P226 is a longer grip.

It's also easier to change magazines with since the magazine well is flat on the bottom, whereas the P229 magazine well has a cutout along the front-strap of the grip.

There is no difference between the grip frame, except the height, of the 226 and the new 229...there is a slight difference in the budge on the panel under the slide lock...that is why you can use 228 magazines in a 229.

The 220 is longer, front to back, and thinner

I love the thinness of the 220. It's my favorite .45 that I've encountered so far.

P226 is thinner but you can change the grip to a hogue grips so it's a bit wider for bigger hands to grip. As for the P229, there is the extended mags that will give you some more room to hold on to. Just fix the extended mags to 10 rounds then you are CA legal.

Both are great firearms. If you ever plan on carrying, go with the p229. If not, get the p226.

I have all three, the 220 is the thinnest. IMO the grip for the 229 and 226 is both same except that the 226 is longer. If those grip is big for you, can always get the E2 grip on them. That is what I have on my 229 and 226.
