GSG 1911 22LR trigger/hammer

I have a Rock Island 1911 and love it. I've had it apart far enough to Frog Lube it and to clean it.

I recently put a GSG 1911 22 in jail and ordered the standard upgrade parts - barrel bushing, spring guide, recoil spring and guide plug. I also would like to replace the hammer and trigger since I'm not a fan of the skeletized look. The reviews I read online say that these parts are interchangeable with a regular 1911 so I went looking online to order them today and was quickly overwhelmed.

I have no idea if I need a long trigger, short trigger, etc. I just want a standard, everyday GI Issue type trigger and hammer.

I think this gun would be a good place to start learning some more advanced gunsmithing on since the 1911 is supposed to be easier to work on and the GSG has such a low price point.

Any advice would be appreciated it. I want to take it out, shoot 500-1000 rounds trough it and then take it down far enough to install the parts I purchased and the hammer and trigger that I need to order.

Really? Bummer. From the reviews and articles I've read they claim it's standard 1911 stuff. I guess I'll live with it if I have too.

I took mine apart thinking I would change the trigger also. I had a spare from another 1911 and I could tell the difference right away the bow was wider. Just to make sure I slide the other trigger in and the bow would wiggle from side to side.

Thanks for the heads up. Any idea on the hammer? What is the trigger made of? Steel, pot metal, aluminum?

I'm in a welding and fabrication course, maybe I'll remove the trigger, weld up the holes and re use. As long as it's weldable material.

Normally on 1911's in order to use a g.i. spur hammer on a pistol with a beavertail grip safety you have to bob the hammer spur. Thats why you see so many Commander style or skeletonized hammers on modern 1911's.

No idea if thats true for a GSG nor do I know if you have a beavertail grip safety.

All my upgrade parts are from CW Accessories. I just need to figure out the plan for the trigger and hammer.

Have a smith work it. Mine now is smooth light and crisp gsg will never be bullseye 22, but I think works well for my use

I want to learn to do my own work AND the "problem" I have with the trigger and hammer is the holes. I'm just going to order a replacement GSG trigger and weld them shut.

Hopefully the hammer will be standard 1911 or I'll just learn to live with it.

I just left mine as-is. I figured with the plastic sights and soft slide finish that it wasn't worth putting money into.
