Hello there. My stepfather recently moved to the state and wanted to give me a handgun. I am currently 18 and I know I could do this through intrafamilial (interfamilial?) transfers from him to my mother then to me. However I was looking at the New Resident Handgun Ownership Report and saw it requested a CDL number or California ID Number. He is disabled and can't drive and has valid ID's from his home state so he has not needed either one. So my question is , is there a workaround or do we have to get him a California ID card to get the ball rolling? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

He doesn't need to register - giving it to your Mom is also acceptable. See the wiki -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Mo..._be_registered
Dad doesn't need CA ID - Mom does, and you do, and both of you need a Handgun Safety Certificate.
On an intrafamilial transfer, the OPLAW form asks for the identification of the person receiving the gun, not the giver.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Does your mother have a California ID/Drivers licence and does she live here?

So it doesn't matter that it was not bought in California? Maybe i was not clear on that. This handgun would be one he already owns and is bringing into the state. But if I understand you correctly we could just do the intrafamilial transfer to my mom even though he has not done the New Resident Handgun Report?Comment

Went back and read that after i had already posted. Well that certainly clears up a headache. I had assumed that it would have to be registered here before it could be transferred. Thank you for the information Sirs.
