The "H" serial prefix began in 1969. Look on the butt of the gun. The SN should start with "H" followed by 6 numbers. Does your SN have any zeros before "5350" or after. You don't have to post the entire SN. Just XX out the last 2 numbers.

Value depends on a number of issues.

1.....Original factory wood grips?
2.....Barrel length ? Which front sight does it have ?
3.....Is the paperwork original or a copy?
4.....Original factory box ? Numbered to gun ?
5.....Original finish? Blue ? Nickel?
6.....Known prior history?
7.....Timing / lockup condition?
8.....Condition of the interior of barrel, cylinder, screws, side plate?
9.....Is the gun 100% original? Any mods? Repairs?
10....Is there a factory mop & brush with the box?
11....Fixed or Adj. sights?

Pictures are nice but for a genuine estimate from a knowledgeable person, they are going to have to see / handle it in person. Those .32 cal Regulation Polices were sweet lil guns. Depending on the above issues and others, it could be worth $200 to ?.

gun is all original blueing is i verry good condition sorry for the bad pictures.box and paperwork are original.4 inch barrel no mop or brush.the serial number only has the 4 numbers H5350.number on box matches.dont have any history on it.thanks

Looks like a 4" model 31. Most likely dates to 1969. The paper work is dated April 1969, correct?

dated 1955 but i think that is the patent date

Don't know what to say.

The "H" series used in models 30, 31, 32 all have 5 numbers following the "H" which began in 1969. Your SN should read H 05350 or H 53500.

1st year of model 31-1 production was 1961 starting with SN 712954. Your SN is nowhere close.

Plus I noticed somebody wrote down "84920" on the paperwork. Also the there's alot of buff marks on the frame possibly indicating a re finish.

Also where are you getting the model 31-1 from? Is it stamped in the window when the cylinder is open? Off the end of the box? Have you removed the grips and looked for SN #'s ?

I suggest you call S& W on Wednesday, give them your info and ask them for a model # and date of shipping. Please let us know what you find out.

I don't think they stamp the preceding zeros for a serial number.

first of all what you see as buff makes is smeared gun oil finish is original and in very good condition.the 31-1 is both onthe box and inside open cylinder.no i have not pulled the grip serial number is on butt of the handle.i can take pickture of number if it helps.thanks

It's not stamped wrong. The ser # is H5350. Shipped about 1969.

looking to date a s&w model 31

Just make sure you get fathers approval first and remember, when in doubt..wrap the sprout

Like new condition with box and papers lists at $325. There isn't a great deal of interest in the Model 31 because of the .32 caliber, and as a result prices are lagging behind other S&W guns.
