    M&P Shield .40 Problem

So I just discovered a problem with my shield .40 when using the 7 round magazine.

If I apply backward pressure on the baseplate/finger rest, the trigger will pull back, but it will not release the striker. I can replicate this about 95% of the time, either at the range with ammo or during dry practice.

If I release pressure on the mag, the trigger will still fire.

Has anyone experienced this on other M&P models?

NOTE: my shield is NOT the CA version with the mag safety. It and will reliably fire without a magazine inserted.

The only problem I have is still being on the waiting list.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Never heard of such a malfunction. Time to call S&W and get a shipping tag to send it back for service.

Is this while actually shooting the gun, or just dryfiring? (Nevermind, I jut saw that it's both)

My Shield 9 has been flawless, but I have read reports of mags falling out while firing the Shield 40. Since both involve the magazine, maybe the problems are related.

yeah, ive read the mag falling out problems too but I have not experienced that yet...

I did some more investigating today and on the 7 round mag, I can see very slight rub marks on the mag where it makes contact with the trigger bar. I believe what is happening is that when rearward pressure is applied to the mag, it is causing the trigger bar to move just enough out of alignment that when you pull the trigger, it just slides out from under the striker release plate (sorry, not up to snuff on the terms).

Anyway, I did some ghetto testing and stuck in a few sheets of thin paper between the trigger bar and the frame to make sure it stays inline. Low and behold, no matter how hard i press the mag, the trigger will result in a striker fire.

All that said, this is very troubling to me since I was going to use this as my CCW. I have already contacted S&W to send in and have them check it out because as it is... I cannot trust this gun for self defense.

I emailed them today but may give them a call on monday to talk with someone in more detail.

I will try to take some pix to better explain what i believe the problem is so other shield owners can keep an eye out.
