    Your break in rituals

well get to pick up my Sig 2022 in .40 from jail this Sunday and got to thinking what are some of your rituals of breaking in your gun. anything from what ammo do you use or initially cleaning/oiling you do of your new purchase.

    Take it home.
    Clean it.
    Lube it.
Go to the range and send 100 rounds through it.
    Clean it.
    Lube it
Put another 100 - 150 rounds through it.
    Take it home.
    Clean it.
    Lube it.
    Put it to bed.
    1. All guns are always loaded.
    2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
    3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
    4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

          Take it home.
          clean it
          lube it
          go to range
shoot it using premium ammo for 100 rds
          use bulk after that
          take it home
          clean it

Bring new gun home, field strip it clean it, add gun oil wear needed. Grab 2 to 5 hundred rounds of my reloads. Go to range, shoot the crap out of it. Take it home clean and oil it. Can't wait to do it again.

200 rounds, clean, inspect for wear / impact marks, 200 more rounds, clean / inspect. If all looks good and there are no failures consider it broken in. if there are failures use logic to determine cause and fire 200 rounds to see if reliable, if not keep going until reliable or get rid of it.

Take it home. Lightly lubricate. Take a dozen or so pictures to show off. Shoot. Take home. Break down and clean. Post range pics.

I ask because I came across this and thought maybe it was a little excessive. not sure how beneficial it would be for the time consumption.

Definitely sounds excessive for a SP2022.

I cleaned and lubed it, put a couple hundred factory rounds through it, cleaned and lubed it again, and the rest have been reloads.

I clean and lube after every trip to the range.

You need inspect your guns while cleaning, check the breech face etc and look for impact marks, strikes, strange wear or cracks.
