    M&P 9 Apex Trigger Kit

Hello! I try my best to use the search function to find what I need but can not seem to come up with the answer to this one, so thus, my first post. I just recently bought a M&P 9m, first handgun, and I can not stand the trigger. Did not seem that bad shooting next to other similar styles before buying, but now it bugs me. I will only be doing range shooting, no carry, no self defense. So the lighter and shorter the better. I hear people talk about the Apex Trigger kits, and also spring kits to lighten the trigger pull and return. Which one do I buy? I see the forward set sear and trigger kit on their website, but then also competition action enhancement kit as well? Do I buy both? A little lost on it not knowing the right terms on handguns yet. Thanks for any help.

Have you looked at this video:

Read a reply in the comments on the overall effects of this trigger job:

Yes it will reduce the trigger pull 1 to 1 1/2 pounds less than stock pull. The video Apex Trigger Install Results shows the before and after results. The Apex striker blocker helps smooth out the final 1/8 inch of trigger pull and will reduce the trigger pull an additional 1 pound. All the other changes are due to the Apex sear. It reduces sear pull 1/32 inch, reduces over travel 1/16 inch, reduces total reset 1/8 inch (which is 1/16 inch less over travel plus 1/16 inch less reset travel). .

If I were you I'd look at the FSS or DCAEK + AEK trigger.

This. Or for even less money wait for the new polymer AEK trigger and run it with the Apex sear. I run the AEK trigger and the sear alone and it makes for a great trigger. Most people I know with a M&P install just the sear and are very happy with that.

That's practically the FSS with additional pre-travel.

It really isn't complicated, just a little understanding of the progression of the various kits and how they build on each other.

The basis Duty/Competition Action Enhancement Kit (D/C AEK) includes the
              1. Ultimate Striker Block - smooths trigger travel
              2. Hard Sear - cleans up letoff
              3. and various springs to tailor the weight of the trigger stroke

The Competition package has lighter springs

The Reset Assist Module (RAM) make the reset more distinct

The AEK trigger is a FFS trigger with the travel optimized for the AEK, it does away with the pivoting factory trigger.

The Forward Set Sear (FSS) is a whole other level of trigger tuning. The Striker Block and Sear are different from that of the AEK to accommodate the the shortened takeup and reset allowed by the trigger geometry. The major parts from the FSS are not interchangeable with AEK parts and the AEK cannot be upgraded to a FSS in piecemeal fashion.

The OPs post makes it clear that this gun will not be used in self defense. How does one know that? I have never bought a gun thinking that I would never use it for its intended purpose. I guess there are some exceptions to that, like specialized target rifles in oddball calibers. And don't get me wrong I'm not exactly gung ho about shooting anybody either. But still I wonder how somebody buys a pistol like the M&P, which was designed as a fighting pistol for both the military and the police, and doesn't expect to use it as it was designed to be used.

If you are considering an Apex kit that has their enhanced trigger (the one that replaces the actual factory trigger), hold off on buy for a bit. There will have be new polymer version available in January that will cut down the price of the kits.

They recommend on the Apex sight that the trigger kit should be used on competition pistols only

It depends on the kit, the AEK or FSS is recommended for range use while the DCAEK aka Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit is for Duty or Carry.

Send it to Burwell Gunsmithing. I love my trigger from him on my Pro. He sends it back fast and beats watching Youtube and trying to fit parts.

Yeah, send it to him and get it back in months with re-profiled stock parts instead of installing it yourself in 30 minutes or less or sending to Apex for a shorter wait.

I have everything possible done to my M&P by APEX Tactical. They are my customer...I actually liked my M&P 45 without the upgrades...However, when they became my customer I became theirs and asked for the works...EVERYTHING.

Now I can shoot gongs at SLOSA 50yrds away consistently. Only my Colt 1911 could do that. My groups have shrunk to levels that I could only dream of (not a handgun guy at all). Lets just say from 25yrds I am not missing a head shot. 15yrds I can keep all my shots within the smallest paper target area all day. People are amazed by it and if you have the cash, it makes a HUGE difference. The two things that made a huge difference was the trigger itself...I like the big honking trigger style and the trigger pull is ~4lbs. My Colt was with me when I picked it up and was shocked at how close they were in regards to the trigger feel. Note the bigger trigger...Absolutely love it for some reason...The small one felt off and since this gun has been compared to being as close to a 1911 as possible in plastic form, I wanted it close close.

One of the best upgrades I have done to anything I own and I ride motorcycles and have quite a few guns. By the way...It is my home defense gun and my travel gun when I go up and down California.
