    Smith & Wesson 360pd

I was at the range with my new used Smith & Wesson 360pd .357 magnum, loaded it up with five rounds of Winchester Silvertips, of course, .357 magnums. I have shot the same caliber before, but from a S&W 686 and a model 19, no problem, right? I knew this gun is very light and better hold it with both hands. Pulled the trigger back and ready to fire off the first round in single action...HOLY ****!!! the first shot shook my whole arm violently from the tip of my fingers to my shoulder. I thought maybe the second shot will be better. It was worst, because my arm never had a chance to recover from the first shot. Had to dump the last three rounds out and put in some .38 +P and it was fine. Wonder how many Calguners had the same experience?

Agreed. These guns were not designed to be range pieces or used for competition. They are designed to be carried comfortably.

I think this vid sums it up...

        I think I'll stick with a Model 36 with +p Gold Dots

Yep my 340PD is like that, but I can deal with the recoil. What load are you shooting?

Lightweight gun + stout load = lots of felt recoil

Get used to it, or sell it and get something else.

Just basic physics at work. For practice sessions, use .38 Special loads or get a shooting glove to take the edge off. Larger grips will also help, at the cost of making concealment more difficult. Otherwise, you'll just have to tough it out as I do with my 642.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

My M&P340 is the same. After firing 50 rounds of 357s (I recall 125 grain) in less than an hour, the pain in my hand increased. I then looked at my hand and noticed three blisters. I was trying a break the thing in! It's definitely not a fun target practice gun.

I now mainly use .38 +P or .357 short barrel Gold Dots.

I picked up my 340PD gently used a few years ago at a LGS. Previous owner picked it up, went to the range and put 5 rounds through it, returned to LGS and consigned it. I picked it up for $500 that same day!
Yes it's a hand full. Cut the web of my hand first time I took it out. Great carry piece at only 12.5oz.

It's a lightweight gun, so it should be expected.

Ha! My LCR 357 doesn't kick that hard!
Seriously, I've shot both (340pd and LCR), and there is no comparison in felt recoil between the two.
