    Glock 19 or?

So I was all set on buying a Glock 19 today, cash in hand, and my local shop (STS Guns) had one in stock! Yay!

I handled the Glock, and started talking to the counter guy about things I didn't really like about it but could learn to live with (the slide release, it feels really top heavy, I didn't really like my Mom's 1st gen Glock 17, etc), and then he handed me a Beretta Px4 full size.

Oh crap what a nice gun. I have small hands, but it felt so great in my hand that now I'm thinking twice about buying the Glock at all. The Beretta felt very comfortable, balanced, like a natural extension of my arm, where the Glock felt just okay.

I'm a Colt 1911 .45 and HK USP 45 gal, and wanted to get a Glock for target shooting and the potential for concealed carry down the road.

I'm completely torn :-/ Any advice anyone can give me is welcome.

if you don't like how it feels, you probably won't shoot it that much. get something you feel happy and comfortable with then practice, practice, practice.

feeling great in the hand at the gun shop is not the same as feeling great in the hand while shooting. imho, it would be best for you to shoot the candidates for purchase at your local range before parting with your money.

True. I love the guns I have, and enjoy shooting all of them. I really wasn't planning on putting that many rounds through the Glock.

For the record, I considered a lot of other guns (M&P, XD, Rami) before I settled on the Glock, and I didn't even consider the Beretta. I need to read up on it.

I've rented a 19, XD, and a M&P, and they all shoot fine (although I was most accurate with the M&P) but I don't know who has a Px4 to rent locally :-/

Edit: It was honestly a toss-up between these three after I shot them.

Me personally i'd get the Glock 19...To me it's one of my favorite handguns..The Beretta px4 looks cool though...The advantage you get with a Glock is parts are so much easier to get and it has a long history of being relialble...Maybe you should take a look at the Springfield XD compact, H&K USP compact or H&K P2000SK...Try them out see whichone you'll like best..But i can guarantee you that you can pretty much never go wrong with the Glock 19...I love that gun!...But you should always buy what you want not what the other person says you should get...Because you'll always end up getting the one that you really wanted...

I agree, it's really preference and comes down to what feels/shoots best in your hands.

Both Full size Px4 and S&W M&P9 "comes with 3 different sized palm swells", are great for the range/price. You can't go wrong with either.

I love my Glock 19 it's a fantastic package but takes a bit of practice to get used to the grip/trigger at first.

choose your sd/hd gun and shoot the hell out of it, after a few thousand rounds, you'll know.

I don't think any Glock guys get erections from it, they all know it's a dependable and a trust worthy handgun.

I've shot an XD, and my hubby owns a USP compact (I own a full size USP) and a P2000 so I've shot both of them quite a lot :-P

I agree that it's hard to go wrong with a Glock, and they're very reliable. I love watching Glock torture videos!.

Reading up on it isn't going to help much but give you the specs and history of the gun.

Coming from a 1911, the g19 is going to feel a little top heavy due to the polymer frame, I felt the same way but now I love my G17 (thinking of getting a 19 soon also). I changed out the slide release to the g34 slide release which has a better shape for your thumb (I have an extra that I got at the last glock match i shot that i'd be more than happy to send if you got the 19). I don't know if this is a factor but there are also tons of aftermarket parts that are cheap and readily available for you and a full take down/repair on a glock is very easy.

Either way your gonna be a happy gal!

Beretta handguns are odd, they just seem to do things different then most. Good or bad thing, that's for you to decide. I just stay away form Beretta handguns. Now shotguns that's another story.

Since you mentioned small hands... definitely try out the M&P 9. The adjustable back strap is a nice feature. I personally prefer the G19, but they're both very good guns.

As far as Berettas are concerned, I don't really care for their plastic line. I love their full sizers (especially the 92FS Brig Inox).
