    Chip McCormick Mag Question.

So I bought 2 new Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags today here is a link to the ones I bought, except I bought them from my local gun shop.

as soon as I took them home I put the base pad on them, then I went to the range, when I got to the range I loaded them up with 8 rounds, I go to insert the mag and it didn't go all the way in, I had to push it pretty good for it to lock into place, I am wondering if this is normal sense they are new, or do I have the base pad screwed on to tight, I honestly don't know.

I am still new to the 1911, I've only had it for maybe 4 or 5 months, the 1911 I am using is a Rock Island Armory Tactical FS and these are the first 2 mags I've bought for it, until now i have been using the factory Act Mag that came with it, I am worried that I may have damaged something by pushing the mag into place.

1911 can be very picky when it comes to mags. My 1911 was like that in the beginning with Tripp Research mags, but it got better down the road. However, I use factory mags with my 1911 right now because my 1911 gets ftf when using non factory mags with jhp rounds.

So in other words I shouldn't worry.

i have a ria tactical as well. it is finicky, particularly with new mags. there are some 8rders that won't cycle properly unless loaded to 7 rounds only. hell, when some mags were new, they wouldn't cycle reliably unless i put in 6 rounds.

if you've loaded 8 rounds in your mag and are seating it fully into the magwell, expect to have to apply some force.

I really don't think you should worry at all. Just in case, wait little bit. I am sure other calgun members with more experience and knowledge than me could answer you question. However, my 1911 was like that for day or two and afterwards it worked just fine after shooting couple hundred rounds through it.

i also have a rock island gi and shooting star mags, they were a little stiff to seat all the way at first but now they function fine, try loading it with only 7 rounds and see if that changes it.

Try feeding 7 rounds in the magazine for a while might just be tight.

I have never had a problem with Chip Power Mags, never tried the Stars.

Wilson mags don't seat into my Baer 1911 as easily as Chips when the slide is in battery. When the gun is empty with slide locked back, the Wilson inserts just as easily.

Good takeaway here is to give your mag a firm push with the heel of your hand to ensure proper seating. Index the mag, then slam that sucker in.

Does it not seat all the way or does the lip get stuck on the mag catch while inserting the mag? My cmc's (shooting star/power 10's) seem to get stuck on the mag catch on the way in if I insert it too gently. No issues when I slam it in though

Remove the slide, insert a loaded magazine in the pistol and verify that the top round isn't contacting the bottom of the ejector.

sometimes the catch has a problem with the mag front can you insert it easier if you depress the release

i gotta say i never use them as 8 +1 rounders i use them as instant 7 +1 magazines
as in insert it with the slide back then drop it

Had the same problem with my Chip McCormick Power mags, even returned them to CM. They said nothing was wrong with them. Next time I will just buy more wilson mags.
